Anderson Scores First Collegiate Goal but Wildcats Suffer Defeat

ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Central Washington women's soccer team (1-5-2, 0-4-1 GNAC) suffered a 7-1 defeat on Thursday evening against Western Washington University (4-2-4, 3-0-2 GNAC) in Ellensburg. Freshman Carmen Anderson secured her first collegiate goal, which came off a cross from teammate Lainee Derry. Lydia Myers led the Vikings with four goals scored in 62 minutes of action.
 
FIRST HALF
Lydia Myers scored the first goal in the 14th minute, rifling a shot past the goalkeeper on a through ball from Kyrsten McGuffey. A minute later, McGuffey got on the scoresheet as she slotted the ball in the bottom corner, giving WWU a 2-0 lead in the 15th minute. Myers scored once again in the 19th minute to extend the lead for the Vikings. Sophie Bearden Craft headed the ball in the back of the net to give Western Washington a 4-0 lead going into halftime. CWU was outshot 19 to four and goalkeeper Leighton Menge made seven saves.
 
SECOND HALF
Myers secured the hat trick in the 49th minute as she rifled a shot in the bottom corner of the net, extending the lead. Moments later, in the 51st minute, Carmen Anderson secured her first collegiate goal as she struck the ball to the back of the net, getting CWU on the scoresheet. Myers added to her goal tally in the 61st minute, giving WWU a 6-1 lead. Audrey Holdridge scored her first goal of the season in the 79th minute with a strike from the corner of the box. Danika Galbraith made seven saves. The Wildcats were outshot 12 to five but looked determined to create goal scoring opportunities. McGuffey led the Vikings with three assists and teammate Ashley Nguyen was close behind with two. Cam Sheets and Anderson led the Wildcats with two shots attempted each.
