Wildcats look to remain perfect in conference play against SFU and WWU

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University Wildcats volleyball team (9-4, 7-0 GNAC) returns home this week, looking to continue their perfect start to conference play as they take on the Simon Fraser University Red Leafs (10-4, 6-1 GNAC) on Thursday, Oct 17 at 7:00 p.m., and the Western Washington University Vikings (6-7, 5-2 GNAC) on Saturday, Oct 19 at 7:00 p.m.

 Thursday's game will occur during Campus Parking Enforcement hours of operation. Due to that, patrons will need a guest parking pass if they don't already have a CWU pass to park in the paved parking lots closest to Nicholson Arena (Lots Q-14 and S-10). The dirt parking lot next to Tomlinson Stadium is free to park (Lot X-12). There are other dirt parking lots by the softball fields that are also free to park at (Lots X-22 and X-23) and free parking along East 18th Avenue.

PREVIOUSLY FOR THE 'CATS
The Wildcats won their two matches last week during a road trip through Alaska, sweeping the Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks on Thursday, Oct 10, and defeating the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves in four sets on Saturday, Oct 12.

The Crimson and Black were led by the GNAC Offensive Player of the Week Marianna Payne, who led all GNAC players last week with 4.86 kills per set while recording a hitting percentage of .356. The 'Cats' other statistical leaders are Morgan Halady (54 blocks), Hannah Stires (210 digs), Kayleigh-Shay Chang (276 assists), and Ellie Marble (15 service aces).
 
ABOUT THE SFU RED LEAFS
The Red Leafs have started the season strong, earning a 4-3 non-conference slate before going 6-1 to start GNAC play. They're currently ranked second in the GNAC. Their one loss so far this season in conference play came at the hands of the Western Washington Vikings on Friday, Sep 27. Since then, SFU has won four straight matches leading into Thursday's matchup against the Wildcats.

Brooke Dexter leads the team with 200 kills this season. Dexter also has 1,142 kills in her career and is close to breaking SFU's NCAA-era career kills record, which is 1,167, currently held by Tessa May. Other statistical leaders for the Red Leafs include Ezawa Malish (45 blocks), Macyn Unger (228 digs), and Eva Person (431 assists and 22 service aces).
 
ABOUT THE WWU VIKINGS
The Vikings' season started rough as they went 1-5 in their non-conference schedule. However, WWU has started conference play strong, going 5-2 and ranking third in the GNAC standings. The Vikings split last week's matchups, losing to Seattle Pacific University on Thursday, Oct 10 in five sets, and sweeping Montana State Billing on Saturday, Oct 12.
 
The Vikings are led by Devyn Oestreich and Delaney Speer, who both have 108 kills each. Oestreich also leads the team in service aces with 21 total. WWU's other statistical leaders include Emily Vossenkuhl (45 blocks), Finnley Claeys (151 digs), and Adele Holland (216 assists).
