ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University Women's Rugby Team opened their season with a resounding 106-0 victory over the University of Oregon late Saturday morning on Steve Hertling Field at Tomlinson Stadium.
"I'm very proud of the squad today," CWU Head Women's Rugby Coach Matt Ramirez said. "We challenged them in multiple areas of the game, and the team responded. It was great to see some of the returners take advantage of their opportunities and have ten 'Cats make their debuts. The connection on the field today was a true testament to the connections this team has made with each other and continue to make each day. That's all due to those on the squad. It's early in the season, and we know it only gets tougher from here, so it's time to get stuck in and keep competing just like they have been."
The Wildcats struck just two minutes into the match as
Faiane Eteuini put the 'Cat son the board and CWU didn't let up from there taking the 65-0 halftime lead. The crimson and black kept the pressure going in the second half with seven more tries and two conversions to cruise to the 106-0 victory over the visiting Ducks of the University of Oregon.
