ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University Women's Rugby Team (1-0) will travel to Provo, Utah to take on the BYU Cougars (1-1) in the 'Cats first D1 Elite matchup of the season this Saturday, Oct. 26 at 10:00 a.m. from Helaman Field.
 
"I'm excited to get on the road with the squad for the first away game of the year," CWU Head Women's Rugby Coach Matt Ramirez said. "We know that BYU always fronts up every time we come to Provo, so the team has been putting in the hard yards and has had some great learnings through pressure and situational rugby this week in preparation. It's now time to put it all together and get to work."
 
Last week the crimson and black took a 106-0 victory over the University of Oregon in the 2024-25 season opener at Steve Hertling Field at Tomlinson Stadium. The 'Cats had 12 different players score tries and combined Jessica Postle and Vivianne Wright kicked five conversions.
 
CWU will look to build upon its recent success over the Cougars, sweeping BYU last season. The 'Cats defeated the Cougars 22-12 on the road last October before earning a narrow 22-20 come-from-behind victory over BYU on Senior Day to conclude the regular season last season.
 
BYU earned a 38-19 victory over Southern Nazarene on the road to open their season. Kami Hartrick and Reina Lavulavu each had two tries with Dana Neff and Elisiva Mann scoring one apiece. Hartrick added four conversions. The Cougars fell to 1-1 on the season after a 79-3 loss in their home opener to D1 Elite and 7's National Runners-Up Lindenwood.
 
The 'Cats own a 10-4 record against BYU and are 3-2 in Provo all-time.
 
The 'Cats will be back at home for a huge matchup back in "The Burg" against the reigning D1 Elite Champions, the Life Running Eagles (2-0). CWU and Life are set to battle on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 6:00 p.m. from Steve Hertling Field at Tomlinson Stadium.
