ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University Women's Rugby Team (2-0) will welcome the defending D1 Elite Champions, now renamed D1A, the Life University Running Eagles (3-0) for a big clash on Steve Hertling Field at Tomlinson Stadium this Friday at 6:00 p.m.
"I'm excited for the matchup against Life this weekend under the Friday night lights," CWU Head Women's Rugby Coach Matt Ramirez said. "It's been a solid week of preparation for the squad, with a few more days to go to keep being diligent with the details. The team has been locked in and can't wait to get after it Friday."
Last week the 'Cats traveled to Utah and took down the BYU Cougars 53-24. Eight different Wildcats had a try against BYU with
Kerena Tinoisamoa nabbing two. Both
Jessica Postle and
Lilly Thomas had two conversions.
Postle was named the D1A National Player of the Week after scoring a try and two conversions against BYU.
CWU will look to snap a 10-match losing streak to the Running Eagles, as Life has proven to be dominant across the country the past few seasons. The two teams clashed four times last season. Life first traveled here to Ellensburg to open the 2023-24 season with the Running Eagles running away with the 41-5 victory. Life continued with a 22-0 victory down in Marietta, Ga., then winning 28-3 in the first round of the D1 Elite playoffs last season. The Running Eagles last second try helped secure the 10-7 victory in Houston in the CRAA USA Rugby College Women's Premier 7's National championship last season.
Life owns the all-time series 14-2 at the moment with the last Wildcat victory coming on March 27, 2021, in a 10-5 match at Life.
The Wildcats will take a break and regroup for 2025 when they play the Pacific Northwest U-23 Team here in Ellensburg on Saturday, February 15.
