ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University Women's Basketball team (2-0) earned a weekend sweep hosting the CCAA-GNAC Crossover inside Nicholson Arena with a 92-57 victory over the visiting Cal State East Bay Pioneers (0-2) Saturday afternoon.
Sunny Huerta led all scores with 20 points.

"I'm very pleased to come out of this weekend with two regional wins. I'm proud of our girl's effort tonight and their intent to improve from game one to game two. Our ladies shared the ball really well which shows in our efficiency, and defensively I thought we had some really sound stretches. However, there are some great take-a-ways to improve upon heading into this week to prepare for two more big regional games down in California."
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Two three-pointers by Huerta and a layup from Capri Sims quickly put CWU up 8-0 forcing CSUEB to take a quick timeout only two minutes into the game.
- The Pioneers were able to put their first points on the board at the 7:30 mark, but a quick four points by Asher Cai made it a 12-2 CWU lead.
- East Bay was able to cut the deficit to five, but a three by Cai sparked the start of a flurry of threes as Annalee Coronado, Shelby Blodgett, Huerta, and a second three by Cai helped lead the 'Cats to the 32-13 lead after the first 10 minutes.
- Central Washington picked up where they left off to start the second quarter converting the first seven points of the quarter to take the 39-13 lead forcing East Bay to take another timeout with 8:21 left in the quarter.
- Both teams went on a bucket-for-bucket streak until a pair of jumpers by Coronado and Blodgett and a three from Keira Marsh pushed the 'Cats to a 56-26 halftime lead.
- Cal State East Bay nabbed the first bucket of the third quarter, but the Wildcats went on a tear as Capri Sims made a pair of buckets and a free-throw, Blodgett and Cai each added another bucket, and Huerta capped off the 10-0 run with a three to make it 68-28 CWU with 7:33 left in the third.
- Both teams continued to go back-and-forth with the 'Cats holding an 80-41 lead to end the third quarter.
- The teams continued to go bucket-for-bucket until a 9-0 run by the Pioneers saw the Wildcat lead cut to 32, 86-54 with 2:59 left in the game.
- Three free-throws by Marsh and a three by Malia Smith helped secure the 92-57 victory for the 'Cats.
STATS FROM THE GAME:
- Huerta led the game in points with 20, adding two rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
- Cai finished with 15 points, adding nine rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.
- Blodget also finished in double-figures with 11 points, adding six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
- Sims and Aliyah Finch each had nine points, a new Wildcat career-high for Finch, with Sims adding five rebounds and Finch leading the 'Cats with another Wildcat career-high 10 rebounds while adding one assist and two steals.
- Coronado and Marsh each added eight points with Coronado adding three rebounds and leading the 'Cats with eight assists while marsh added one rebound, one assists, and one steal.
- Smith and Emily Shaw each finished with six points with Smith adding one assist and Shaw adding two.
- Rylee Leishman and Jordy DeMott each finished with three rebounds.
SERIES HISTORY:
- The Wildcats now lead the all-time series 5-1.
- CWU holds a four-game winning streak over the Pioneers.
- The crimson and black are a perfect 2-0 inside Nicholson Arena over CSUEB, defeating the Pioneers 77-62 in Ellensburg back on December 12, 2009.

- The Wildcats will head down to the Golden State to Santa Barbara, Calif. to participate in the GNAC/PacWest Crossover hosted by Westmont College. The Wildcats will first take on NCAA Division II newcomer the Vanguard Lions (0-2) on Friday, Nov. 15 at 5:00 p.m. CWU will wrap up their time down in Santa Barbara taking on the hosting Warriors (0-2) on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 7:00 p.m. with both games happening inside Muchison Gymnasium.
