Wildcats Swept by Nighthawks on Day One

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University softball team fell in the day one double-header against the 24th-ranked Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks Friday afternoon.

SCORING:
 
  • Clarissa Moreno put the Nighthawks on the board first in the top of the third with a home run to left center field.
  • Abigail Gagnon followed up Moreno later in the top of the third with a home run down the left field line to put NNU up 2-0.
  • The Nighthawks added in the top of the sixth when Ava Clark reached on a fielder's choice which scored KK Bell.
  • Later in the top of the sixth Emma Mulligan doubled down the right field line to score Jami Obringer making it 4-0 NNU.
  • Moreno added later in the top of the sixth with a single to score Clark making it 5-0 NNU.
  • Sidney Booth reached on a fielder's choice still in the top of the sixth to score Mulligan, making it 6-0 NNU.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Ashlee Laver pitched the first 2.2 innings for CWU allowing five hits, two runs, and one walk against 14 batters.
  • Olivia Ross made her Gary & Bobbi Frederick Field debut for the Wildcats pitching the final 4.1 innings allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out one against 21 batters.
  • Booth pitched the full seven innings for the Nighthawks allowing seven hits while striking out eight against 27 batters.

SCORING:
 
  • The Nighthawks struck first in the top of the first with Gagnon drilling her second home run of the day, this time a three-run home run into left field, bringing home Booth and Moreno in the process.
  • Anna Fridell put the Wildcats on the board with a single into right field which scored Hampson to make it 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
  • NNU secured their victory in the top of the seventh as Moreno sacrificed herself to score Clark and Booth would follow suit to score Mulligan to make it 5-1 NNU.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Payton Kessler pitched the full seven innings for Central allowing eight hits, five runs, and one walk while striking out three against 31 batters.
  • Charlotte Forniss pitched the first 4.2 innings for the Nighthawks allowing seven hits and one run while striking out two against 21 batters.
  • Gina Skinner pitched the final 2.1 innings facing nine batters.
 
HITTING:
 
  • The Wildcats earned seven hits led by Hampson with two.
  • King, Kai, Fridell, Anika Garcia, and Zoey Theophilus all earned one hit apiece.
  • Fridell garnered the lone RBI for CWU.
  • The Nighthawks finished with eight hits with Obringer and Kellcie Adams each earning two.
  • Gagnon finished with three of the five Nighthawk RBI while Booth had the sole walk of the game.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
 
  • The Wildcats still hold the 83-31 advantage in the all-time series.
  • The Nighthawks have increased their win streak to six over Central.
  • The Wildcats now hold a 42-11 record over NNU in Ellensburg.

  • The Wildcats and Nighthawks will battle it out again tomorrow in a double-header at Gary & Bobbi Frederick Field with first pitch set for noon and game two to follow approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
