Wildcats Conclude DII First Pitch Invitational with 6-0 Setback to Washburn

CONROE, Texas – The Central Washington University softball team wrapped up their participation in the DII First Pitch Invitational, hosted by the University of Texas-Tyler early Sunday morning. 
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

SCORING:
 
  • The Ichabods took a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning when Marrit Mead hit a double down the right field line scoring Ellington Hogle. 
  • Washburn added on in the fourth inning when Danielle Schlader singled down the left field line bringing home Jaden LaBarge for the 2-0 lead. 
  • In the fifth inning, Riley Stephens sacrificed herself to the shortstop allowing enough time for Autymn Schreiner to score to make it 3-0 Washburn. 
  • Hogle doubled to center field in the sixth inning to bring home Hailey Neira which was followed by Mead singling to right field to score Schlader and Schreiner sacrificing herself to the right fielder to score Hogle to make it 6-0 Washburn. 
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Payton Kessler got the start for the Wildcats pitching 4.1 innings and allowing six hits, three runs, and two walks while getting two strikeouts against 21 batters. 
  • Zoey Theophilus relieved Kessler pitching a full inning and allowing four hits, three runs, and one walk while getting one strikeout against eight batters. 
  • Olivia Ross wrapped up the pitching duties for CWU pitching for 0.2 innings and didn't allow a single hit in the two batters faced. 
  • Jaycee Ginter started the game for WU going four innings and allowing one hit while getting seven strikeouts against 13 batters.
  • Sadie Walker earned the save for the Ichabods pitching the final three innings allowing two hits and two walks while getting three strikeouts against 13 batters.

UP NEXT:
 
  • The Wildcats will now trek over to San Antonio for a three-game series against the seventh-ranked NAIA softball team the Our Lady of the Lake Saints (2-0). 
  • The series starts with a double-header on Tuesday with first pitch on game one set for 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time and game two to follow approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of game one from the OLLU Softball Field. 
  • The Wildcats and Saints will duke it out for a single game on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. Pacific Time to wrap up the Wildcats trip to Texas.
