Charron’s Outstanding Outing Helps the ‘Cats to Series Split

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Central Washington Baseball won game four 1-0 over Western Oregon on Saturday to force the series split. Daniel Charron threw a scoreless one hitter in his complete game. He pitched seven innings, faced 19 batters, and recorded five strikeouts.

Game One: Western Oregon 6 – Central Washington 2

SCORING
  • The Wolves plated three runs in the first inning. Justyn Herzog ripped a double down the right field line that scored two runs and gave Western Oregon the early 3-0 advantage.
  • Ryan McCarthy put the 'Cats on the board in the 2nd inning. He hit a grounder to second base, which scored Andrew Sharp.
  • RBI singles in the fourth and sixth pushed across two more runs for the Wolves, which made it 5-1.
  • In the seventh inning, Andrew Sharp launched a 2-0 pitch over the fence in left field for a solo home run. Sharp's homer brought the 'Cats back within three.
  • Shortstop Herzog answered CWU's home run with one of his own in the seventh to secure the 6-2 game one victory for Western Oregon.
HITTING
  • Central Washington had three hits in the game. Andrew Sharp was 2-3 with a double, a home run, one RBI, and two runs scored. Ben Leid went 1-3 with a single to left field.
  • Western Oregon had a good game on both sides of the ball and finished with 12 hits. Justyn Herzog led the way, going 3-4 with a double, a home run, and three RBIs. Emiliano Alarcon also hit 3-4 and had one RBI.
  • John Oleson was 2-3 with two RBIs.
PITCHING
  • Reid Rasmussen got the start for the 'Cats. He pitched 0.2 innings and surrendered three runs. Logan Pierce came in for relief. Pierce threw 5.2 innings and struck out three batters while giving up two runs, one earned.
  • Nolan Milliman came in and closed out the game. He faced seven batters, got three fly outs, and gave up one run.
  • Arturo Alvarez started on the bump for the Wolves and earned his second win of the season. He pitched a complete nine inning game, allowed two runs, and tallied five strikeouts.
Game Two: Central Washington 1 – Western Oregon 0

SCORING
  • The Wildcats scored the game's only run in the final inning of this seven-inning game two bout. Ryan McCarthy stepped up to the plate with two outs. He lifted a single into right center and Jake Madson came in to pinch run at first base. Madson did his job and stole second base. Then, Marcus Manzardo mashed an RBI single down the left field line that scored Madson to put the 'Cats up 1-0.
  • Daniel Charron shut down the Wolves in the bottom of the seventh to earn the 1-0 game two win and the series split.
HITTING
  • Central Washington had six hits, doubling their production from Sunday's first game. Marcus Manzardo and "Baba" Varner Jr. each went 1-4.
  • Austin Ohland and Andrew Sharp were both 1-3 at the plate with a double.
  • Ben Leid lifted a single to left field in the top of the second and finished the game going 1-3.
  • Justyn Herzog recorded Western Oregon's only hit off of Charron.
PITCHING
  • Daniel Charron got the start and threw a complete scoreless game, while only allowing one hit. Charron pitched seven innings, faced 19 batters, had five punch outs, and walked three. Daniel's impressive outing earned him his second win of the season.
  • Jacob Memmott started the final game of the series for Western Oregon. He worked five innings and struck out six Wildcats.
  • Kadyn Shelton came in to pitch in the sixth inning. He got one strikeout and allowed two hits. Bryce Bond was the final pitcher for the Wolves. Bond threw one and two-thirds innings, allowed one run and tied up two batters.
ON DECK
  • The Wildcats have a bye week before heading to Billings, Montana, to face Montana State Billings in a four-game series starting on Friday, March 22nd at 1:00 p.m.
