SEATTLE- Central Washington women's rugby loose forward has been nominated for the prestigious MA Sorensen Award.
The Sorensen Award is handed out to the best women's collegiate rugby athlete each year. The award is named after World Cup-winning Eagle MA Sorensen, who went on to blaze trails as a player, coach, and doctor. The award is presented every year by the Washington Athletic Club of Seattle since its induction in 2016. The current list of 17 nominees will be trimmed to four or five when the Collegiate Rugby Community votes and the winner will be determined by the awards panel which includes Sorensen herself. The winner will officially receive her award at a gala in Seattle in June.
"Tessa is absolutely deserving of this honor," CWU Head Women's Rugby Coach Matt Ramirez said. "She's been an ultimate teammate and competitor since the day she stepped foot on campus and has an unmatched work ethic. Her drive to improve not just for herself, but for her team, is admirable. Tessa has been a great ambassador for the program and collegiate women's rugby. I'm extremely proud of her."
Hann is now a four-time nominee for the award and will look to be the second-straight Wildcat to win the award after Keia Mae Sagapolu earned the coveted award last season.
Hann, a senior from Denver, has been integral in the Wildcats success this season serving as team captain. She's converted three tries this season with two coming at Grand Canyon in the fall. She's continued to be one of the leading tacklers for the Wildcats this season.
