Wildcats Swept in Day Two by Northwest Nazarene

NAMPA, Idaho – The Central Washington University softball team fell in a pair of tight games at 22nd-ranked Northwest Nazarene in day two of the four-game series Saturday afternoon.

GAME 1:
 
SCORING:
 
  • Abigail Gagnon singled to right field for the Nighthawks in the bottom of the first inning to score Emma Mulligan and put NNU up 1-0.
  • In the bottom of the second inning, Mulligan singled to left center to bring home Jami Obringer and put the Nighthawks up 2-0.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Ashlee Laver pitched a complete six innings for CWU allowing eight hits, two runs, three walks, and struck out four against 29 batters.
  • Sidney Booth pitched the full seven innings for NNU allowing five hits, one run, and struck out five against 27 batters.
 
HITTING:
 
  • The Wildcats finished with five hits led by Serena Perez with two.
  • Sasha Mitchell, Laney Kaysner, and Karsyn Decker all recorded one hit apiece.
  • Mitchell drew the lone Wildcat walk.
  • The Nighthawks finished with eight hits led by Mulligan and Gagnon each with two.
 
GAME 2:
 
SCORING:
 
  • Kate Hopkins put the 'Cats on the board early in the first inning when she singled through the left side to score Makenna King and make it 1-0 Wildcats.
  • NNU would respond in the bottom of the third inning when Emma Bumatay homered down the left field line to bring home Moreno and Olivia Bailey in the process to make it 3-1 Nighthawks.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Zoey Theophilus pitched the full six innings for CWU allowing eight hits, three runs two of which were earned, and struck out one against 27 batters.
  • Gina Skinner pitched the full seven innings for NNU allowing seven hits, one run, two walks, and struck out six against 30 batters.
 
HITTING:
 
  • The Wildcats finished with seven hits led by Hopkins with two.
  • King, Perez, Mitchell, Kaysner, and TK Kai all recorded one hit apiece.
  • Hopkins had the sole Wildcat RBI.
  • Alyssa Benthagen and Brooke Jordan each drew one walk.
  • NNU finished with eight hits, led by Obringer and Moreno each with two.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
 
  • The Wildcats now lead the all-time series 84-36.
  • CWU is 71-25 over NNU in conference games.
  • The crimson and black are 35-22 in Nampa.
 
UP NEXT:
 
  • The Wildcats will have a week off before welcoming the Western Oregon Wolves for a four-game series.
  • The series will kickoff on Friday, April 12 with gametimes set for 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
  • CWU and WOU will continue into Saturday, April 13 with the same game times, but both games being the Gold Star Family Games to honor fallen military members and their families with a ceremony to be held prior to the first pitch of game one.
