Wildcats Head North to Face Strong Alaska Teams

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University men's basketball team (8-5, 2-1 GNAC) continues its road trip this week as the Wildcats head to The Last Frontier to take on fourth-place Alaska Fairbanks (7-6, 3-1 GNAC) on Thursday, Jan 9 and third-place Alaska Anchorage (10-7, 3-1 GNAC) on Saturday, Jan 11.

PREVIOUSLY FOR THE 'CATS
The Wildcats returned from winter break last week to see their first loss in conference play against the then-first-place Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks, who defeated CWU in overtime on Jan 4 in Nampa, Idaho. The Cats led by one with only six seconds remaining in regulation before NNU tied it with a free throw. The Nighthawks took the momentum early in the extra period and never looked back, defeating Central 85-78.

There have been strong performances from three Wildcats so far this season. Garrett Anderson and Cavin Holden both lead the team in scoring with 182 points each. Anderson also leads in rebounds with 77 total boards, and Holden leads in assists with 55. Maverick Sanders has also performed well on the defensive side, leading the team in blocks and steals with 18 each.

ABOUT THE NANOOKS
Fairbanks has seen its season run evenly, going 7-6 overall. The Nanooks in conference play have shown to be more successful with a 3-1 record. Their lone loss in conference play was to Saint Martin's 63-71 on Dec 7. However, UAF has won its last two conference games over Western Washington 88-73 on Jan 2, and Simon Fraser 76-74 on Jan 4.

The Nanooks are led by Isaiah Saams-Hoy, who leads in points (215), assists (47), and steals (19). Other leaders for UAF include Jalai O'Keith with 98 rebounds, and Ketan Sidhu, with 14 blocks.

The Wildcats and Nanooks tip off on Thursday from the Alaska Airlines Gymnasium at 8:00 p.m. PST.

ABOUT THE SEAWOLVES
The Seawolves have seen a strong start to their season, going 10-7 and 3-1 in conference. Their last loss was to Saint Martin's 74-79 on Dec 5. Since then, UAA has won five straight games entering this week.

Alaska Anchorage is shown to have an all-around strong team with five different players leading individual stats. These include Tyler Burraston (245 points), Bishop Tosi (100 rebounds), Sean Evans (68 assists), Hasaan Herrington (20 steals), and John McFadden (17 blocks).

The Seawolves take on the Wildcats on Saturday from the Alaska Airlines Center at 8:00 p.m. PST.
