QUOTING ASSISTANT COACH MATT LAYTEN
"With championships around the corner, every team in the GNAC, including us, was busy putting together final tune up races for their squads in fast competitive environments this weekend. We had a group down at Oregon and the rest of the GNAC took their top squads to Illinois and Texas this weekend to get head-to-head competition with potential NCAA qualifying teams from other regions. So with our squad of Lady Wildcats having so much depth, that necessitated a "double header" weekend to add a race in for those who didn't make the trip to Oregon. That way we can get another rep of racing under our belts and prepare our whole program for championship season as best as possible.
This is the most challenging course on our schedule, with lots of rolling hills and different terrains throughout each 2K loop, it's definitely more of a gritty course versus a fast course. Definitely not designed to be easy. Junior Camryn Holterhoff and Freshman Paige Huntsinger didn't let that get to them and instead showcased grit of their own by putting themselves in the mix from the gun and shined for our group today. Their freshmen teammates Lexi Titchenal and Dawn Hulstedt weren't too far behind with strong days of their own to couple with their strong freshman seasons starting off their collegiate careers. These ladies had performances today letting the GNAC know that they are here and ready to contribute in the championship season if their number is called, and also showcasing the depth of our women's squad."
