Wildcats Fall Short on the Road Against Red Leafs

BURNABY, B.C.- The Central Washington University women's soccer team (3-4-3, 1-4-2 GNAC) fell 3-0 on the road Thursday evening against Simon Fraser University (9-0-2, 6-0-1 GNAC) at SFU Stadium at Terry Fox Field. The Red Leafs were powered by a balanced attack, with goals from Sarah Caravatta, Kaiden Sherwood, and Sofia Faremo.
 
FIRST HALF
Simon Fraser opened the scoring in the 4th minute when Sarah Caravatta finished a cross from Kaiden Sherwood and Katelyn Magdalinski, slotting the ball past the keeper. The Red Leafs doubled their lead in the 19th minute, as Sherwood fired a shot into the net off assists from Magdalinski and Kiera Scott. SFU extended the lead to 3-0 in the 26th minute when Sofia Faremo struck from outside the box following a pass from Caravatta.

Central Washington's best chance of the half came in the 38th minute, when Jaylee Reynolds forced a save from Simon Fraser goalkeeper Sarah Loewen with a shot on target. SFU outshot CWU 7-5 in the first half, while CWU goalkeeper Danika Galbraith recorded three saves.
 
SECOND HALF
The second half remained scoreless, with Simon Fraser outshooting Central Washington 8-5. In the 50th minute, SFU's Kaiden Sherwood received a yellow card for a hard foul. Central continued to press for a goal, with Jaylee Reynolds forcing another save from Sarah Loewen in the 54th minute. Gianna Doucette generated a strong scoring chance in the 71st minute, rifling a shot on target that was again stopped by Loewen. In the 84th minute, Taylor Mills added to CWU's efforts with a shot on frame, but Loewen made the save once more.

CWU goalkeeper Leighton Menge made six saves in the second half to keep the Red Leafs off the board, but despite creating several promising opportunities, the Wildcats were unable to convert and break through the SFU defense.

The 'Cats continue their road trip as they head to Nampa, Idaho to face off against Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, October 18. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at NNU Soccer & Lacrosse Field.
