Former Wildcat Huerta Off to Fast Start in Cyprus

LIMASSOL, Cyprus – Former Wildcat guard Sunny Huerta, the all-time leader in points scored in CWU history, has inked a deal with the Anagennises Yermasogias, a professional women's basketball club that plays in the Cyprus-Division A.

Huerta made her debut with Anagennises Yermasogias on October 19 when they played Asbis AEL Limassol. Asbis AEL Limassol got the best of Anagennises Yermasogias by a 70-61 score but Huerta earned a starting nod, being the only player on the team to play all 40 minutes. She tallied 13 points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block.

Since their season-opening setback, Huerta has helped guide Anagennises Yermasogias to back-to-back victories, first a 95-41 victory over Ydra Asfalistiki ENAD Nicosia, then an 84-52 victory over Atlantas Paphos. Huerta has averaged 13.7 points per game, 4.7 rebounds per game, 3.7 assists per game, and has added nine steals and two blocks while shooting 63.2 percent from the floor, 30.8 percent from three, and 62.5 percent at the free-throw line in the first three games this season.

Huerta concluded a career following last season that was one for the ages in GNAC women's basketball history. She holds 26 single-season top 10 marks and 16 career top-10 records, including: Most points in CWU history and second-most in GNAC history (1,960), Most made field goals also in GNAC history (714), Highest career three-point percentage (42.5%), Most games played (124), Most games started (116). Additionally, she holds the Great Northwest Athletic Conference record for most points scored in a single game (46 vs. Walla Walla on Dec. 21, 2022), a performance in which she also tied the CWU record for most field goals made in a game (18).

The reigning GNAC Player of the Year racked up the accolades as a three-time Unanimous First Team All-GNAC member, an Honorable Mention WBCA All-American as both a junior and senior, third team D2CCA All-American as a senior, D2CCA All-West Region honors, a three-time Academic All-GNAC honoree, and a CSC Academic All-District honoree while earning a 3.61 GPA in Social Services.

"I am so proud of Sunny and everything that she accomplished at CWU which is just a direct reflection of all her hard work and commitment," CWU Head Women's Basketball Coach Randi Richardson said. "I'm so happy for her that her time here at CWU and what she was able to accomplish has now resulted in her getting to continue her career and see more of the world. That's a special thing and Sunny whole heartedly deserved it. I know she's going to do great."

Huerta and Anagennises Yermasogias play next November 5 on the road at Etha Engomis Nicosia in Nicosia, Cyprus.
