ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Two Central Washington University Football standouts were named All-Americans Wednesday as both the American Football Coaches Association and the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association both announced their All-American Teams.
Slade Edwards garnered First Team AFCA All-American status after a standout senior campaign. The Gene Upshaw Finalist, Super Region 4 Second Team, and two-time Lone Star Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year played a critical role at center for the 'Cats offensive line this season. While starting all 12 games for the crimson and black, he helped establish the 'Cats prominent offensive production this season that included 266.1 rushing yards per contest and 420.9 total yards per game this season. The offensive line as a whole was stellar only allowing 43 total tackles for loss this season with only 10 coming as sacks.
Tyler King was tabbed to the Second Team for both the AFCA as well as the CCA. He had a sophomore season to remember, starting all 12 games as a defensive end for the crimson and black. He accumulated 47 total tackles, 21 solo and 26 assisted which included 17 tackles for loss for a net loss of 119 yards and 13 sacks which added up to 112 lost yards. He also led the team with 10 quarterback hurries and was tied with two forced fumbles. He added a blocked kick in the NCAA Division II Playoffs against Western Colorado.
