Anderson, Ntekpere, and Sims Claim GNAC Honors of the Week

PORTLAND, Ore.- Three athletes have been recognized for their outstanding performances this week. Emy Ntekpere of the Central Washington University track & field team was named the GNAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week after setting a record-breaking mark in the women's triple jump at the Riverfront Invitational over the weekend. Meanwhile, Capri Sims was honored as the GNAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week, and Garrett Anderson earned the title of GNAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.

QUOTING HEAD COACH JONATHAN HILL
"Emy opened up in the triple jump this week and it's obvious the work she's been putting in. We weren't going to compete until she was ready, and she was READY, laying down a top 25 all-time NCAA mark. It's so exciting to watch her continue to develop and grow into a better and better jumper. She's not done by a long shot, and we've got some big meets coming up we're really looking forward to."

Ntekpere earned third place in the women's triple jump with a leap of 42-01.25, setting a new CWU record, personal record, and claiming the top spot in NCAA Division II rankings. She continues to perform each week and her efforts in training have translated to results in the meets.

Ntekpere and the Wildcats will return to competition next week at the GNAC Indoor Championships in Spokane on February 17th and 18th.

QUOTING HEAD COACH RANDI RICHARDSON
"Capri plays so hard and empties her tank every time she touches the floor. The effort she plays with is inspiring. She always does so many little things that do not show up on stat sheets, which has contributed immensely to our team's success and culture. Capri stepped up big for us this week scoring and rebounding and was extremely efficient," Richardson said. "She was the anchor of our defense in both games and executed tremendously on that side of the floor. I am so happy for her – she deserves this recognition."

This is Sim's first GNAC Player of the Week this season, after she was named a part of the GNAC Preseason All-Conference Team at the beginning of the season.
