Wildcats Gain First Victory of the Year in Day Two Split at the Tournament of Champions

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Central Washington University Softball Team earned their first victory of the season in a day two split at the Tournament of Champions Saturday.

GAME 1:
 
SCORING:
 
  • Taylor Rapp broke the scoreless tie in the first inning when she singled to right center field to score Sophia Newcomb. 
  • Halle Dilger responded for the 'Cats in the bottom of the first when she sacrificed herself to the center fielder to score Jessica Reitz-Eaton to tie things up. 
  • Adriana Rodriguez put the 'Cats up in the second inning when she reached on a fielder's choice to score Serena Perez and make it 2-1 CWU. 
  • Reitz-Eaton started a fourth inning run for the 'Cats when she doubled to center field to score Rodriguez and Perez and make it 4-1 CWU. 
  • Still in the fourth inning Karsyn Decker doubled to left field to score Reitz-Eaton followed by McKayla Cable powering her first collegiate homerun which scored Decker and herself, making it 7-1 CWU. 
  • Brooke Blocker sacrificed herself to the left fielder to score Decker in the sixth inning and was backed by Raeden Young singling to score Dilger and end the game with CWU winning 9-1. 
 
HITTING:
 
  • Mia Flores led the way for CWU with three hits while Reitz-Eaton, Decker, and Young all had two hits apiece. 
  • Cable, Perez, and Rodriguez all had one hit apiece. 
  • Reitz-Eaton and Cable each had two RBI while Decker, Dilger, Blocker, Young, and Rodriguez all had one RBI apiece. 
  • Perez drew two walks while Decker and Cady Wilton both drew one walk. 
  • Sonoma State was led by Rapp and Kaiya Dickens each with two hits.
  • Rapp had the lone RBI for SSU. 
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Payton Kessler pitched the full six innings allowing six hits, one run, and one walk while striking out five of 26 batters faced. 
  • Emily Hinchey pitched 3.1 innings for the Seawolves allowing seven hits, five runs, one walk, and struck out one of 19 batters. 
  • Alexis Camberos pitched 0.2 innings allowing three hits and two runs while facing five batters. 
  • Ava Paquin pitched the final 1.2 innings for SSU allowing two hits, two runs, and three walks while earning two strikeouts against 11 batters. 
 
GAME 2:
 
SCORING:
 
  • Young notched the first score of the game in the fifth inning when she singled to score Perez to make it 1-0 CWU. 
  • The Gators bit back in the seventh inning when Ashley Rocha singled to score Isabel Tellez followed by Kai DeLeon doubling to score Rylee McDaniel and give SFSU the 2-1 lead. 
  • San Francisco State continued in the seventh inning when Marley Gonzales singled to score Rocha followed by Lexi Holihan sacrificing herself to the pitcher to score DeLeon and Kira Nilson singled to score Gonzales to make it a 5-1 SFSU lead. 
 
HITTING:
 
  • Dilger, Perez, Young, and Rodriguez all logged one hit apiece for CWU.
  • Young had the sole RBI. 
  • DeLeon, Gonzales, and Nilson all had two hits to lead SFSU. 
  • Five different Gators had an RBI. 
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Olivia Ross pitched the full seven innings for CWU allowing nine hits, five runs with four earned, and two walks while striking out five of 33 batters faced. 
  • Nia Trinidad pitched all seven innings for SFSU allowing four hits and one run while striking out five of 25 batters. 
 
UP NEXT:
 
  • The Wildcats will wrap up their time at the Tournament of Champions tomorrow when they face off against the hosting Warriors of Stanislaus State (3-3) at 10:00 a.m. from Warrior Field.
