SEATTLE, Wash. –
Johan Correa of the Central Washington University track & field team was named the GNAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week after he set a new school record in the men's 800 meter at the Husky Classic.
QUOTING HEAD COACH JONATHAN HILL
"Johan and Coach Layten made a quick trip to Seattle to check off one of our season goals; NCAA Qualifying. He's fit so he just needed races. We got in a great field, and he won the heat and placed 10
th overall. He's the real deal; he and Coach Layten have an excellent plan, and we're excited to focus on racing for points instead of times this weekend."
Correa completed his 800-meter race in 1:48.90, setting both a new personal best and a CWU record. He took first place in his heat, section seven, and finished 10th overall, competing against top-tier schools like UCLA and the University of Washington. His performance demonstrated that he is more than capable of competing at the highest level, regardless of the competition.
Correa and the Wildcats will return to action this week, as they head to Spokane to compete in the GNAC Indoor Championships.
