INDIANAPOLIS – Both the Central Washington University Men's and Women's Basketball Teams were ranked within the top seven of the west region in the first ranked NCAA regional rankings with the men ranked seventh and the women ranked fifth.
This was the first NCAA regional ranking with actual 1-10 rankings of the teams in the region as the first regional ranking last week was alphabetical with both teams featured.
The CWU Men's Basketball Team is currently 19-7 on the season and 13-3 in GNAC play earning at least a share of the GNAC regular season title after earning a weekend sweep last weekend first defeating Western Oregon Thursday 89-69 then getting revenge on St. Martin's by an 87-70 score on Saturday. They have another pair of big matchups this weekend to conclude the regular season as they travel to Western Washington Thursday night with the Vikings not far behind CWU in the region at nine. The 'Cats conclude the regular season on Saturday north of the border at Simon Fraser.
The CWU Women's Basketball Team reached the 20-win mark with a weekend sweep last weekend at home versus WOU and SMU. The crimson and black are now 20-6 overall and 13-4 in GNAC play and are in third place in the GNAC currently. The 'Cats first defeated the Wolves on Thursday by a 64-56 score and backed it up with an 81-74 victory over the Saints on Saturday. The Wildcats have just one game remaining as they travel to The Gem State to faceoff against Northwest Nazarene on Saturday with the Nighthawks featured in the alphabetized rankings last week but fell out of the top 10 in this week's rankings.
