'Cats Drop Pair on Saturday

NAMPA, Idaho – The Central Washington University softball team dropped a pair down in Idaho on Saturday.

GAME 1

GAME 1:
 
SCORING: 
 
  • MSUB started out hot as Bryn Lucht doubled to right center to score Lauren Blaschak and Marleigh Nieto to make it 2-0 'Jackets.
  • Grace Hood added on later in the first when she singled to right field to score Lucht and was followed by Kennedy Dypwick singling up the middle to score Winter Hurst and give MSUB the 5-0 lead. 
  • Ashtyn Falor put the 'Cats on the board in the second inning when she doubled in left center field to score Serena Perez
  • Still in the second inning Abby Watkins singled through the left side to score Heidi Falor followed by Karsyn Decker reaching on an error by the shortstop to score Heytvelt and make it 5-3 MSUB. 
  • McKayla Cable added one more in the second when she singled to the second baseman to score Watkins and make it 5-4 MSUB. 
  • The Yellowjackets responded in the bottom of the second when Ashley Akers doubled to right field to score Kaylin Galvin and Blaschak and make it 7-4 MSUB. 
  • Falor earned her second RBI of the game in the third when she singled up the middle to score Perez and make it 7-5 MSUB. 
  • MSUB added on two more in the third when Nieto tripled to right center to score Emily Watters followed by Blaschak reaching on an error by the second baseman to score Nieto and make it 9-5 MSUB. 
  • The 'Jackets added two more in the fourth as Hood tripled to left field to score Hurst followed by Dypwick singling to left center field to score Hood and put the Yellowjackets up 11-5. 
  • MSUB closed things out in the fifth inning as Hood sacrificed herself to the right fielder to score Galvin followed by Dypwick singling to right center field to score Riley Warden and seal the victory 13-5.
 
HITTING:
 
  • Perez and Falor each had two hits to lead the 'Cats.
  • Decker, Cable, Watkins, and Raeden Young all recorded one hit apiece. 
  • Falor had two RBI while Decker, Cable, and Watkins all recorded one. 
  • Cable, Perez, Heytvelt, and Jessica Reitz-Eaton all drew one walk. 
  • Dypwick led MSUB with three hits and four RBI. 
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Olivia Ross pitched 0.1 innings allowing five hits, five runs, and two walks against eight batters. 
  • Payton Kessler pitched three innings allowing five hits, six runs with five earned, and one walk while striking out two of 17 batters. 
  • Ellie Gilbert pitched the final 1.1 innings allowing four hits, two runs, and two walks against 10 batters. 
  • Caitlyn James pitched 1.1 innings for MSUB allowing four hits, four runs three earned, and one walk against nine batters. 
  • Hurst pitched the final 3.2 innings allowing four hits, one run, and three walk while striking out one of 18 batters. 
 
GAME 2:
 
SCORING:
 
  • Falor once again put the 'Cats on the board with a single to left field to score Reitz-Eaton and make it 1-0 in the first inning in favor of CWU. 
  • The Nighthawks tied things up in the bottom of the first when Emma Bumatay doubled to right center field to score Emma Mulligan. 
  • NNU tacked on two more in the second when Mulligan reached on an error by the center fielder to score Jamie Obringer and Keana Bell and put NNU up 3-1. 
  • The Nighthawks added more in the third when Charlotte Forniss homered to left field to score Clarissa Moreno followed by Kellcie Adams singling up the middle to score Obringer and make it 6-1 NNU. 
  • Halle Dilger cut into the deficit in the sixth inning when she doubled to left center field to score Perez and make it 6-2 NNU. 
  • The Nighthawks responded in the bottom of the sixth when Moreno doubled to left center to score Ava Clark and Annie Swanson followed by Forniss doubling to right center field to score Moreno and give the Nighthawks the 9-2 win. 
 
HITTING:
 
  • Dilger led the 'Cats with two hits while Reitz-Eaton, Falor, Kayle Brusseau, and Ashlyn Cook all logged one hit. 
  • Falor and Dilger each had one RBI for CWU. 
  • Reitz-Eaton, Falor, and Perez each drew one walk. 
  • Four different Nighthawks had two hits apiece while Forniss had three RBI to lead NNU. 
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Zoey Theophilus pitched all six innings for CWU allowing 12 hits, nine runs with only seven earned, and three walks while striking out six of 33 batters. 
  • Riley McGee pitched 5.1 innings for NNU allowing four hits, two runs, and two walks while striking out two of 23 batters faced. 
  • Victoria Frias pitched the final 1.2 innings for the 'Hawks allowing two hits and one walk while striking out three of eight batters. 
 
SERIES HISTORY:
 
  • CWU leads the all-time series 58-34 over MSUB. 
  • The 'Cats are 5-5 against MSUB in the past 10 games. 
  • CWU is 10-5 in neutral site games against the Yellowjackets.
