ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University Women's Rugby Team (2-3) will play in Ellensburg one last time for the 2024-25 season as they welcome the BYU Cougars (5-5) for their second clash this season and for the 'Cats Senior Day this Saturday, March 29 at 11:00 a.m. from Steve Hertling Field at Tomlinson Stadium.
The 'Cats will celebrate five seniors on Saturday for all of their hard work and contributions to the CWU Women's Rugby program over the past number of years. Five seniors will be celebrated:
Shaylee Coulter-Fa'amafu,
Maleena Mero,
Philomena Namosimalua,
Winnie Namosimalua, and
Kerena Tinoisamoa with the celebration to begin following the conclusion of the match.
CWU will look to get back in the win column after suffering a pair of setbacks since beginning the spring portion of their schedule. Since starting back up this spring the crimson and black are 0-2 falling first at home to Lindenwood by a 41-15 score before falling on the road at Life two weeks ago by a 47-0 score.
The 'Cats already faced BYU once this season, back on October 26, 2024, down in Provo, Utah where CWU came away with the 53-24 victory.
Jessica Postle was tabbed the 8x8 Sports D1A National Player of the Week after the victory from her one try and two conversion performance to lead CWU.
The Cougars are 5-5 on the season posting victories over Southern Nazarene twice, Grand Canyon, Air Force, and Stanford. They fell to Lindenwood and Life each twice as well as CWU. Last weekend they fell at home against Life by a score of 57-33 in their Senior Day.
CWU owns the all-time series 11-4 including a four-game win-streak and a 6-2 home record over the Cougars.
The crimson and black will conclude the regular season with an international battle as they travel up to Vancouver, B.C. to take on the British Columbia Thunderbirds (11-4-1) on Saturday, April 5 at 1:00 p.m. from Gerald McGavin UBC Rugby Centre.
