ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University Women's Rugby Team (2-1) will officially start the spring portion of their season with a battle against the Lindenwood Lions (4-1) on Steve Hertling Field at Tomlinson Stadium this Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
"We are excited to get this Spring kicked off after a long winter," CWU Head Women's Rugby Coach Matt Ramirez said. "Lindenwood is a fast and physical side, so we will have to be up for the challenge. We'll be focused on the details and playing our game. We can't wait to get it going this Saturday."
This will be the first match of the spring for the 'Cats after going 2-1 in the fall. They defeated Oregon 106-0 at home, backing it up with a 53-24 road victory at BYU. They suffered their first setback of the season in a 52-24 home loss to reigning D1A Champions Life. Junior Hooker/Loose Forward
Jessica Postle was tabbed the D1A National Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 28 through Nov. 3 after a try and two conversions at BYU.
The Wildcats are looking for their first ever victory over the Lady Lions as Lindenwood has won the first 12 matchups between the two squads. Last season the Wildcats were swept by Lindenwood, first falling 25-12 at home in the fall then falling 46-15 in St. Charles, Mo. In the spring.
The Lady Lions are 4-1 on the season posting three victories in the fall: 92-7 over Southern Nazarene, 79-3 over BYU, and 106-8 over Grand Canyon. Lindenwood kept rolling to open their spring season in a 40-29 victory over Queens (N.C.) before suffering their first setback of the season in a 29-24 home loss to Life.
The Wildcats will welcome a rematch against the reigning national champions in Life (13-0) on Saturday, March 15 at 7:00 a.m. PST from Lupo Family Field in Marietta, Ga.
