Wildcats Fall Against Vikings

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University Softball Team suffered a pair of defeats at home to the 11th-ranked Western Washington Vikings Friday afternoon.

SCORING:
 
  • Olivia Matlock started the scoring for WWU in the first when she sacrificed herself to the left fielder to score Kanilehua Pitoy followed by Nyree Johnson doubling to center field to score Emma Andrewjeski-Ramirez and Hailey Rath to make it 3-0 WWU after the first.
  • The Vikings then used a 12-run fourth inning to make it 15-0 Vikings.
  • Serena Perez drilled a double to left center field in the bottom of the fourth to score Brooke Blocker and Cady Wilton and make it a 15-2 game in favor of WWU.
 
HITTING:
 
  • Blocker, Perez, and Halle Dilger all recorded one hit apiece for the 'Cats.
  • Perez had two RBI.
  • Gabi Casco drew the only walk of the game for CWU.
  • Maleah Andrews and Andrewjeski-Ramirez led WWU with three hits apiece.
  • Andrewjeski-Ramirez had five RBI.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Payton Kessler pitched 4.2 innings for CWU allowing 13 hits, 11 runs, and six walks while striking out two of 31 batters faced.
  • Ellie Gilbert pitched 0.1 innings allowing three hits, four runs, and two walks against six batters.
  • Alli Kimball pitched all five innings for the Vikings allowing three hits, two runs, and one walk while striking out four of 19 batters.
 
GAME 2:
 
SCORING:
 
  • Rath started things off in the first inning with a single to right field to score Andrews followed by Andrewjeski-Ramirez doubling down the left field line to score Rath and Pitoy to make it 3-0 WWU after the first.
  • Lexi Barcomb singled up the middle in the fourth inning to score Haylee Kim which proved to be the start of an eight-run inning for WWU to lead 11-0 after four.
  • Matlock added on in the fifth when she doubled to right field to score Pitoy and make it a 12-0 game in favor of the Vikings.
 
HITTING:
 
  • Dilger and Kayla Brusseau each recorded one hit.
  • Jessica Reitz-Eaton, Casco, and Dilger all drew one walk apiece.
  • WWU was led by Pitoy with three hits while Andrews had three RBI.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Zoey Theophilus pitched the first three innings allowing 10 hits, nine runs, and no walks but earned one strikeout against 20 batters.
  • Heidi Heytvelt pitched one innings allowing three hits, three runs with only two earned, and two walks against nine batters.
  • Gilbert pitched the final inning allowing one hit, no runs, and no walks against four batters.
  • Joie Baker pitched the first three innings for WWU pitching a no hitter but allowing three walks with one strikeout against 12 batters.
  • Kaiana Kong pitched the final two innings allowing two hits and earning one strikeout against eight batters.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
 
  • WWU now leads the all-time series 89-78.
  • The Wildcats are 33-41 against WWU in Ellensburg.
  • Both teams have split evenly 5-5 in their past 10 meetings.
 
UP NEXT:
 
  • The Wildcats will wrap up their 2025 season tomorrow with another doubleheader against the #11 Vikings. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. for game one with game two to follow approximately 30 minutes after game one. Tomorrow will also be Senior Day as the 'Cats honor six seniors following the conclusion of game two.
