CWU Concludes Regular Season at UBC

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington Women's Rugby Team (3-3) will conclude the regular season north of the border as they tackle the UBC Thunderbirds (9-1) this Saturday, April 5 at 1:00 p.m. from the Gerald McGavin UBC Rugby Centre in Vancouver.

The Wildcats will look to maintain their momentum from last weekend's 19-10 senior day victory over BYU. Jessica Postle struck first in the game and successfully kicked the conversion which held up at the half by a 7-5 score over the Cougars. BYU broke out in the second half and took the lead, but Linda Chavira tapped down a try and Postle successfully kicked her second conversion kick of the day to make it 14-10 CWU. Lilly Thomas added insurance late in the match with a try to seal the deal and send the 'Cats to victory.

This will be the 'Cats first time meeting the Thunderbirds.

CWU will have a tough task ahead of them as UBC went 9-1 in their fall season including a 4-1 Canada West record. They fell to Victoria 22-17 to open their season but then rattled off four-straight victories with the closest victory coming in a 46-14 fashion over Lethbridge. They then defeated Calgary 81-7 and got revenge on Victoria 51-22 in the Canada West Final Four. The T-Birds then advanced to the U SPORTS Women's Rugby Championship in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island where they defeated the University of Prince Edward Island 72-7, then the University of Ottawa 47-17, and then in the championship made it two-straight over the Vikes with an 8-3 victory over Victoria to claim their first national championship.

Following their clash with UBC, the Wildcats will turn their attention to the D1A Playoffs where they will travel to St. Charles, Mo. to face the Lindenwood Lions. The 'Cats and Lions first round matchup is set for Saturday, April 12 at 8:00 a.m. PST from Hunter Stadium.
