Wildcats Fall in Day Two at Simon Fraser

BURNABY, B.C. – The Central Washington University Softball Team wrapped up their series north of the border with a pair of setbacks to the hosting Simon Fraser Red Leafs Saturday afternoon.

GAME 1:

  • Cassidy Affeldt put the Leafs on the board with a homerun to center field to score Abby McGlynn and make it 2-0 SFU in the fourth.
  • McGlynn tacked on a homerun in the fifth to make it 3-0 SFU.
  • In the sixth inning, a throwing error by the shortstop scored Affeldt and Taylor Henley following Erin Murphy singling to third base to score Grace McMillan and McGlynn doubling to left field to score Murphy and Booth and seal the 8-0 six inning victory.
 
HITTING:
   
PITCHING:
 
  • Payton Kessler pitched five innings allowing nine hits, five runs with four being earned, did not walk anyone, but struck out two of 24 batters.
  • Olivia Ross pitched the final 0.2 innings allowing three hits, three runs with none being earned, and no walks but struck out one of six batters faced.
  • Monica Bourque pitched six innings for SFU allowing three hits, three walks, and six strikeouts against 24 batters.
 
GAME 2:
 
SCORING:
 
  • McGlynn started things off in the first inning with a single to center field to score Lauren Lugtigheid followed by Kristen Davyduke sacrificing herself to score Murphy and Affeldt also sacrificing herself to the right fielder to score McGlynn and make it 3-0 SFU.
  • Affeldt added on in the third with a single up the middle to score McGlynn and increase the Leaf lead to 4-0.
  • Affeldt again in the fifth delivered a double to center field to score Murphy and Lugtigheid and make it 6-0 SFU.
  • Reese Schimmel helped give the 'Cats their first score of the day when she sacrificed herself to the right fielder in the sixth inning to score Kayla Brusseau making it 6-1 Red Leafs.
 
HITTING:
 
  • Decker led the 'Cats with two hits while Casco, Halle Dilger, Perez, and Schimmel all logged one hit apiece. Schimmel had the lone Wildcat RBI.
  • Perez and Schimmel each drew one walk.
  • Three different Red Leafs had two hits.
  • Affeldt led the way for SFU with four RBI.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Zoey Theophilus pitched 4.2 innings allowing eight hits, six runs with five earned, and one walk but earned three strikeouts against 23 batters.
  • Ellie Gilbert pitched the final 1.1 innings allowing one hit, no runs, no walks, and earned one strikeout against five batters.
  • Alexandra Nazaroff pitched four innings allowing five hits and one walk but had one strikeout against 17 batters.
  • Jordyn Ruppel pitched the final three innings allowing two hits, one run, and one walk but earned two strikeouts against 12 batters.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
 
  • SFU now leads the all-time series 58-48.
  • The Red Leafs are 6-4 in the last 10 meetings.
  • The two squads have logged 25 wins each in Burnaby.
 
UP NEXT:
 
  • CWU will be back in Ellensburg for the first time in almost a full month as they welcome the Saint Martin's Saints (21-9, 6-4 GNAC) for a two-day series.
  • The two teams will battle it out on Saturday, April 12 and Sunday, April 13 with Saturday set to start at 1:00 p.m. and Sunday to begin at noon.
  • The Wildcats will host their annual Gold Star Games on Saturday to honor fallen military members and their families. A pregame ceremony is set to begin around noon.
