LACEY, Wash. – The Wildcats' offensive attack was back at it again against Saint Martin's University (1-9-1) with three goals to take down the Saints 3-0. They have scored in each of the last nine matches, giving themselves plenty of opportunities to stay in games. Today,
Jaylee Reynolds opened the scoring with her sixth goal of the season, and
Sydney Madison and
Olivia Fast each got on the board as well in the second half with goals of their own. This win moves the 'Cats to 5-4-2 in conference play as they stay in the hunt for third place in the GNAC.
QUOTING HEAD SOCCER COACH JOHN HAWKS:
"To see the collective get stronger each day because of how they show up for one another on and off the field is awesome to witness! A complete product, on both sides of the ball, for a full 90 is a direct reflection of the reps they have consistently put in each day! We will enjoy the fruits of our labor today and shift our focus to Western Oregon tomorrow ... Go 'Cats!
FIRST HALF:
Throughout the majority of the first half, both teams looked very even. Neither team was pulling away in the shot count, and great defense was being played by both sides. However, at the 37-minute mark, the Wildcats were finally able to take advantage of a defensive lapse by the Saints' defense.
Emma Barrett found an open
Jaylee Reynolds, who was there to finish off the play and give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead late in the first half. Central managed to get a total of five shots off in the first half while the Saints could only get three off. Only one of those shots from the Saints was on target, as Goalie
Danika Galbraith was there to stop the ball for her lone save of the day.
SECOND HALF:
The Wildcats' defense continued to fly to the ball in the second half, not letting the Saints find anything on the offensive end as they ended the second half not getting a single shot off in the half. On the other end, it was shooting practice for Central, as they took 14 shots in that half alone. Ten minutes into the second half, Defender
Sydney Madison found herself up field and scored her first goal of the season to give the 'Cats a 2-0 lead. She wasn't the only Wildcat with their first goal of the season, as just three minutes later, Forward
Olivia Fast also scored her first of the season.
Emma Barrett assisted Fast on the play for her second assist of the day, pushing the score to 3-0 and giving the 'Cats the road win.
UP NEXT:
On Saturday at 7 p.m., the Wildcats will take on the Western Oregon Wolves (1-6-3) on the road. The last time the two teams matched up, the Wolves took down the 'Cats, and now Central will be looking for revenge. A win against the Wolves would bring them closer to Seattle Pacific University (6-2-2), who sits ahead of them in the GNAC standings at third place.
