Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Second Half Burst by Falcons Snaps 'Cats Winning Streak

SEATTLE – The Central Washington University Women's Soccer Team (2-6-3, 2-3-1 GNAC) saw their winning streak come to an end Saturday afternoon thanks to a 3-1 defeat to the hosting Seattle Pacific Falcons (6-3-1, 3-2-1 GNAC).

QUOTING CWU HEAD WOMEN'S SOCCER COACH JOHN HAWKS:

"Credit to SPU and their ability to capitalize on a few moments that ultimately made the difference.

Unfortunately, we put ourselves in a tough spot out of the gate in the second half and they capitalized on what would be the game-winning finish.

That said, the resilience and ability to compete for a full 90 is one of many things that makes this group special. We had our moments too; and we will be better for it as we head into next week at home… Go Cats!"

FIRST HALF:

Ashlyn Valdovinos of SPU logged the first action of the game with a shot that sailed off target, but a handful of minutes later the Wildcats were on the attack as Jaylee Reynolds, Olivia Fast, and Kylee Schreck all logged shots that needed saving by SPU. The Falcons survived the 'Cats onslaught and broke through thanks to Andie Buckley finding Nora Patterson to make it a 1-0 SPU lead just 13:08 into the game. Caitlyn Schreck subbed into the game and immediately tied things up at the 19:10 mark with her first collegiate goal thanks to Marisa Badillo finding her for the goal. The remaining first half was quiet with SPU logging four more shots with starting goalkeeper Danika Galbraith only needing to save two of them as the teams went to the half break tied at one.

SECOND HALF:

The Falcons immediately came out swinging to begin the second half with back-to-back shots before Natalie Carroll found the back of the net to give SPU the 2-1 lead at the 49:21 mark. SPU kept their onslaught going with four-straight shots with Galbraith needing to save one. Carroll logged her second goal of the day at the 61:15 mark to make it a 3-1 SPU lead. Jes Lizotte logged another shot following Carroll's second goal which was answered by Badillo logging a shot followed by Cam Sheets forcing the SPU goalkeeper Celia Ramos to make a save. Shannah Mellick concluded the game with a shot that needed to be saved by the Falcons, but SPU survived for the 3-1 victory.

NEXT UP:
