Wildcats Fall on Day One of the Stan State Invitational

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Central Washington University Softball Team was swept in day one of their weekend at the Stan State Invitational at Stanislaus State. 
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUPS:
 
GAME 1:
 
  • Score: Central Washington (6), #5 Cal State East Bay (5) (8 Inn.)
  • Records: CWU (3-2), CSUEB (11-1)

  • Score: Central Washington (1), Stanislaus State (6)

GAME 1:
 
SCORING:
 
  • Rylee Gomez began the scoring in the top of the first inning for the Pioneers when she doubled to left center to score Jeslyn Cuellar and make it 1-0 East Bay.
  • Hallie Sehlin tied things up in the bottom of the first when she singled through the right side to score McKayla Cable
  • East Bay got back on top in the top of the third after Jasmyn Morales was walked with the bases loaded to score Sarissa Block, and in the next two at-bats saw Cynthia Carrillo and Isabel Mercado both earn bases loaded walks to made it 4-1 CSUEB.
  • The 'Cats responded in the bottom of the third when Joelie Eder singled up the middle to score Jadyn Holdren followed by Melise Brown doubling to center field to clear the bases and score Jessica Reitz-Eaton, Eder, and Sehlin to make it a 5-4 CWU lead. 
  • Reagan Hallet tied things up for the Pioneers in the top of the seventh when she singled to left field to score Mia Garcia and send the team to extra innings.
  • CSUEB took the win in the top of the eighth inning when Cuellar tripled to score Jennavee Campos and give the Pioneers the 6-5 win.
 
HITTING:
 
  • Holdren led the 'Cats with two hits while making it home once and drawing a walk.
  • Brown had a hit with 3 RBI.
  • Sehlin and Eder both had a hit, an RBI, and made it home once with Sehlin also drawing a walk.
  • Kayla Brusseau, Mia Flores, and Izzy Vargas all had one hit apiece.
  • Cuellar, Porto, and Gomez all had two hits to lead East Bay while Morales, Mercado, Hallet, and Block all had one hit.
  • Cuellar, Gomez, Morales, Carrillo, Mercado, and Hallet all had one RBI for the Pioneers. 
 
SCORING:
 
  • Zoey Theophilus pitched the first 2.1 innings allowing four hits, four runs, and five walks while earning one strikeout against 15 batters.
  • Alex Flohr pitched the next 0.2 innings not allowing any hits, runs, or walks while earning a strikeout against two batters.
  • Brooke Baker pitched the final five innings allowing six hits, two runs with one earned, and three walks while earning two strikeouts against 24 batters.
  • Ally Fuentes pitched the first 2.2 innings allowing six hits, five runs with only two earned, and one walk while striking out three of 17 batters.
  • Marissa Quintero pitched the final 5.1 innings allowing only two hits and a walk while earning three strikeouts against 19 batters.
 
GAME 2:
 
SCORING:
 
  • Malia Babasa helped put the Warriors on the board first after reaching by an error from the shortstop which allowed Maggie Pyke and Moxie Barton to score and make it 2-0 Stan State in the top of the third.
  • Ava Montesdeoca scored on a passed ball on the next at-bat to make it a 3-0 Warrior lead. 
  • Still in the top of the third, Katelyn Bridgeman singled to score Babasa and in the next at-bat saw Addie Meddings double to score Bridgeman and make it a 5-0 Stanislaus lead.
  • Flores put the 'Cats on the board in the bottom of the third when she reached on a fielder's choice to score Cable and make it 5-1 Warriors.
  • Stan State added one more in the top of the seventh when Meddings reached on a fielder's choice to score Bridgeman and seal the 6-1 Warrior lead.
 
HITTING:
 
  • Cable had three hits to lead CWU as well as account for the only 'Cat to make it home. 
  • Sehlin and Kasi Thomas each added a hit.
  • Holdren drew two walks.
  • Bridgeman led Stan State with three hits while Montesdeoca, Babasa, Meddings, Pyke, Barton, and Nat Camarena all had one hit.
  • Babasa, Bridgeman, and Meddings all had one RBI each.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Ellie Gilbert pitched 2.1 innings allowing five hits, five runs with three earned, and one walk while striking out one of 14 batters.
  • Reese Anderson pitched the final 4.2 innings allowing four hits, one run with it not being earned, and one walk while striking out two of 19 batters.
  • Alexis Camberos pitched all seven innings allowing five hits, one run, two walks, and six strikeouts against 29 batters.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
 
  • Cal State East Bay now leads the all-time series 6-5.
  • CWU is 5-3 against East Bay in Turlock.
 
  • Stanislaus State leads the all-time series 12-10.
  • The Warriors are 11-7 against CWU in Turlock.
 
UP NEXT:
 
  • The Wildcats will continue into day two of the Stan State Invitational tomorrow.
  • They first take on the Dominican Penguins (3-5) at 2:00 p.m.
  • They wrap up the day with a rematch against the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. with both games happening on Warrior Field.
