Wildcats Fall in Day Two of the Stan State Invitational

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Central Washington University Softball Team suffered a pair of setbacks in day two of the Stan State Invitational.

GAME 1:
 
  • Score: Central Washington (4), Dominican (5)

GAME 1:
 
SCORING:
 
  • Brooke Baker immediately put the 'Cats on the board in the top of the first when she hit a double to score Jadyn Holdren and make it 1-0 CWU.
  • McKayla Cable reached on an error by the third baseman in the top of the fifth to allow enough time for Jenna Markuson to score and make it 2-0 CWU.
  • Still in the top of the fifth, Kayla Brusseau doubled to score Cable and Adriana Rodriguez and give the 'Cats the 4-0 lead.
  • In the bottom of the sixth the Penguins earned their first run when Kaitlyn Aguilar singled to score Leslie Ruiz and make it 4-1 CWU.
  • A few batters later, Aneesa Brewer hit three-run home run to tie things up at four apiece.
  • Taylor Rodriguez walked it off in the bottom of the seventh for DU when she reached on an error by the pitcher to allow enough time for Kate Tobola to score and give the Penguins the 5-4 win.
 
HITTING:
 
  • Holdren, Brusseau, Baker, Hallie Sehlin, Reese Anderson, Markuson, and Rodriguez all logged one hit apiece for the 'Cats.
  • Brusseau had two RBI while Baker had one.
  • Cable, Holdren, Markuson, and Rodriguez all made it home one time for the crimson and black.
  • Holdren and Joelie Eder each drew one walk.
  • Six different Penguins logged one hit apiece.
  • Brewer had three RBI while Aguilar and Rodriguez both logged one.
  • Tobola, Ruiz, and Alyssa Williams all drew one walk.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Anderson pitched the first 5.2 innings for CWU allowing six hits, four runs, no walks, and eight strikeouts against 25 batters.
  • Alex Flohr pitched the final 0.1 inning allowing no hits, a run, and three walks against five batters.
  • Alexis Verduzco pitched the first 4.1 innings allowing three hits, three runs with one being earned, two walks, and two strikeouts against 18 batters.
  • Rodriguez pitched the next 0.2 innings allowing one hit and one run which was not earned against four batters.
  • Mia Souza pitched the final two innings allowing three hits, no runs, and no walks against eight batters.
 
GAME 2:
 
SCORING:
 
  • Brusseau gave the 'Cats the lead in the top of the first with a single and thanks to an error by the second baseman gave enough time for Holdren to score and make it 1-0 CWU.
  • Stanislaus State got on the board in the bottom of the first when Addie Meddings was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Malia Babasa and make it 1-1.
  • Still in the bottom of the first, McKenna Beach sacrificed herself to the shortstop to score Katelyn Bridgeman and make it 2-1 Warriors.
  • In the next at-bat, Sadie Salas doubled to score Meddings and Nat Camarena to give Stan State the 4-1 lead after one inning.
  • Bridgeman added on in the bottom of the second with a single to score Ava Montesdeoca and Babasa and make it 6-1 Stanislaus State.
  • In the bottom of the third, Montesdeoca singled to score Maggie Pyke which was followed by Babasa sacrificing herself to the second baseman to score Moxie Barton and make it an 8-1 Warrior lead.
  • The Warriors sealed the deal in the bottom of the fifth when Babasa doubled to score Barton and take the game 9-1.
 
HITTING:
 
  • Holdren and Brusseau each had two hits while Cable and Mia Flores both had one apiece.
  • Holdren was the only 'Cat to make it back home.
  • Flores drew one walk.
  • Salas led the Warriors with three hits while Babasa had two and Montesdeoca, Bridgeman, Camarena, and Barton both logged one.
  • Babasa, Bridgeman, and Salas all had two RBI while Montesdeoca and Beach both had one.
  • Babasa and Barton both made it home twice while five other Warriors made it home once.
  • Babasa, Bridgeman, and Camarena all drew one walk each.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Zoey Theophilus pitched the first inning allowing two hits, six runs, and three walks against 11 batters.
  • Flohr pitched the next two innings allowing four hits, two runs, no walks, and earned a strikeout against 10 batters.
  • Baker pitched the final 1.1 innings allowing three hits, one run which was not earned, no walks, and got a strikeout against eight batters.
  • Alexis Camberos pitched all five innings for Stanislaus State allowing six hits, one run which was not earned, and one walk while striking out three of 23 batters.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
 
  • Dominican now leads the all-time series 6-5.
  • The Penguins are on a three-game win-streak.
  • Both teams are 2-2 in Turlock.
 
  • Stan State leads the all-time series 13-10.
  • The Warriors are 12-7 in Turlock against the 'Cats.
  • The 'Cats are 7-3 in the last 10 matchups against Stan State.

  • The 'Cats will conclude their time at the Stan State Invitational tomorrow when they face the Menlo Oaks (0-8).
