Wildcats Suffer Setback to Conclude California Weekend

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Central Washington University Softball Team fell on the final day of the Stan State Invitational to the Menlo Oaks.

SCORING:
 
  • The Oaks got on the board first when Lucy Brooks scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0.
  • Brooke Baker tied things up in the bottom of the first when she sacrificed herself to the center fielder to score McKayla Cable.
  • Menlo got back on top in the top of the second when Emma Medina singled to center field to score Alina Perez and Tacia Kahalewai to make it 3-1 MC.
  • In the top of the third Menlo added on when Grace Tuiteleleapaga singled to left field to score Brooks and Makayla Mentzer.
  • Still in the top of the third Kahalewai singled through the right side to score Gabrielle Rodriguez followed by Aleatha Buchner sacrificing herself to the left fielder to score Perez and make it an 8-1 Menlo lead.
  • The 'Cats responded in the bottom of the third, first when Alex Flohr singled to right field to score Izzy Vargas followed by Joelie Eder earning a bases loaded walk to score Cable.
  • Still in the bottom of the third Lizzy Turpen sacrificed herself to the center fielder to score Jadyn Holdren and make it an 8-4 Menlo lead.
  • Rodriguez got the Oaks back on the board in the top of the fourth with a single through the left side to score Brooks followed by Kahalewai doubling to left center field to score Rodriguez, then Perez singling to left field to score Tuiteleleapa.
  • Still in the top of the fourth a throwing error by the catcher allowed Kahalewai to score and make it a 12-4 Menlo lead.
  • Eder earned a bases loaded walk to score Vargas in the bottom of the fourth to make it 12-5 Menlo.
  • The Oaks sealed the deal in the top of the fifth when Lara Edeker singled to center field to score Ella Underwood followed by Medina singling up the middle to score Demi Silva and Sydney Costello singling to left center to score Medina and make it a 17-5 game for Menlo.
 
HITTING:
 
  • Cable led the 'Cats with two hits while Flohr, Eder, Mia Flores, and Vargas all earned one hit apiece.
  • Eder had two RBI for the 'Cats while Baker, Flohr, and Turpen all had one.
  • Cable and Vargas both made it home twice for CWU while Holdren made it home once.
  • Holdren and Eder both drew two walks.
  • Medina had three hits to lead the Oaks while Brooks, Tuiteleleapaga and Kahalewai both had two hits and seven other Oaks had one hit each.
  • Kahalewai and Medina both had three RBI while Tuiteleleapaga had two and four other Oaks had one.
  • Brooks made it home three times while Rodriguez, Tuiteleleapaga, Kahalewai, and Perez all made it home twice and six other Oaks made it home once.
  • Five different Oaks drew a walk.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Reese Anderson pitched the first two innings allowing three hits, five runs with four being earned, two walks, and earned two strikeouts against 12 batters.
  • Baker allowed three hits, three runs, and two walks against five batters.
  • Flohr pitched the next inning allowing four hits, four runs with three being earned, and no walks against seven batters.
  • Zoey Theophilus pitched the final two innings allowing six hits, five runs, one walk, but earned three strikeouts against 15 batters.
  • McKayla Rosen pitched three innings for Menlo allowing three hits, four runs with three being earned, and two walks against 16 batters.
  • Rosaline Torralva pitched the final two innings allowing three hits, one run, two walks, and a strikeout against 11 batters.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
 
  • This was the Oaks first win over the 'Cats who now lead the all-time series 2-1.
  • This was the first meeting in Turlock between the two teams.
 
UP NEXT:
 
  • The 'Cats will head to Nampa, Idaho to participate in the Nighthawks Invitational.
  • They first take on San Francisco State at 9:00 a.m. PST followed by a game against the hosting Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks at 11:00 a.m. PST on Friday, February 20.
  • They conclude the weekend with a double-header against SFSU on Saturday, February 21 with game one set for 11:00 a.m. PST with game following the conclusion of game one.
  • All four games will be held on Bobby Welch Halle Field.
