Wafford Joins the Wildcat Family as a Defensive Line Coach

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Central Washington University Football Head Coach has announced another addition to his staff in new Defensive Line Coach Jon'Mae Wafford.
 
"I am excited to welcome Jon'Mae as our Defensive Line Coach," Power said. "He played the position and he understands how to develop players in order to maximize their potential. He is a sharp young coach with a tremendous amount of energy and enthusiasm that will be a perfect fit for CWU Football. I am excited about what he brings to our program."
 
Wafford comes to CWU after serving on the staff of his alma mater, Southern Oregon, for three seasons. He spent the first two seasons as a Defensive Line Assistant before being promoted to Defensive Line Coach last season. While Wafford was on the Raiders staff, he helped guide seven All-Frontier Conference honorees with two landing on the First Team and Noah Turnbull earning NAIA First Team All-American and Frontier Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2023.
 
Prior to starting his coaching career, Wafford was a defensive lineman for the Raiders for two seasons. Over his two seasons playing for SOU he accumulated 46 total tackles: 22 solo and 24 assists. He added 7.5 tackles for loss for 31 yards including 3.5 sacks for 24 yards. He deflected two passes and forced two fumbles. He spent his first two collegiate seasons at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, California. While with the Owls he totaled 75 tackles with 20 tackles for loss including 9.5 sacks over 20 games.
