'Cats Suffer Pair of Setbacks in Day Two of the NorCal Crossover

TRACY, Calif. – The Central Washington University Softball Team fell in day two of the NorCal Crossover on Saturday.

  • Stanislaus State got on the board in the first when Marley Hogue reached due to a throwing error by the shortstop that scored Katelyn Bridgeman which was followed by Madison Rosebrough singling down the left field line to score Hogue and Sadie Salas singling to right field to score Addie Meddings and make it 3-0 Warriors.
  • Mia Flores responded in the bottom of the first with a single to left center field to score Jadyn Holdren and cut it to a 3-1 Stan State lead.
  • Lizzy Turpen tied things up in the third inning with a double to right center field to score Kasi Thomas and Brooke Baker to make it 3-3.
  • The Warriors got back on top in the fourth inning when Malia Babasa tripled to right center field to score Ava Montesdeoca and make it 4-3 Stanislaus State.
  • Montesdeoca added on in the fifth with a single to the shortstop to score Katrina Rodriguez and make it 5-3 Warriors.
  • Babasa added another in the seventh with a single through the right side to score Moxie Barton and make it 6-3 Warriors.
  • Turpen began the Wildcats comeback attempt in the bottom of the seventh with a single to left field to score Thomas, but that's where the comeback ended as the Warriors won 6-4.
 
HITTING:
 
  • Turpen led the 'Cats with three hits while Holdren and Flores added two and McKayla Cable, Baker, Thomas, and Izzy Vargas all added one each.
  • Turpen had three RBI while Flores added one.
  • Melise Brown drew the only walk for the 'Cats.
  • Babasa, Salas, and Barton led the Warriors with two hits while six other Warriors added one each.
  • Babasa had two RBI while Montesdeoca, Rosebrough, and Salas added one each.
  • Montesdeoca, Bridgeman, Hogue, and Meddings all drew one walk.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Ellie Gilbert pitched the first five innings allowing 10 hits, five runs with only two earned, two walks, and four strikeouts against 29 batters.
  • Baker pitched the final two innings allowing two hits, one run, and two walks against 11 batters.
  • Alexis Camberos pitched the first three innings for Stanislaus State allowing six hits, three runs with only one earned, no walks, and one strikeout against 17 batters.
  • Alexandria Himes pitched the final four innings allowing five hits, one run that wasn't earned, and one walk while striking out four of 18 batters.

  • The Toros began their first inning onslaught when Mireya Rico singled down the left field line to score Ashley Goodale and Makayla Bishop followed by Ava Camarena earning a bases loaded walk to score Rico, then Gaby Gandara singled to left field which scored Savanna Kastigar which was followed by Bishop earning a bases loaded walk to score Dyoni Garcia to make it 5-0 CSUDH.
  • Still in the first, Camarena stole home, followed by Goodale doubling to left field to score Bishop and Gandara with Marisa Dominguez singling through the right side to score Goodale and put Cal State Dominguez Hills up 9-0 after the first.
  • Gandara added on in the second with a single to the shortstop to score Kastigar followed by Bishop earning a bases loaded walk to score Torie Au and Goodale sacrificing herself to the shortstop to score Camarena and put the Toros up 12-0.
  • The 'Cats got on the board in the fourth inning when Holdren singled to center field to score Turpen followed by Baker singling to right field to score Holdren and Vargas to cut it to 12-3 Toros.
  • Still in the fourth, Thomas singled to center field to score Cable followed by Kayla Brusseau and Turpen earning back-to-back bases loaded walks to score Baker and Thomas to cut it to a 12-6 CSUDH lead.
  • The Toros would take back the momentum in the bottom of the fourth when Gandara reached because of a throwing error by the third baseman to score Camarena followed by Goodale singling down the left field line to score Gandara to make it 14-6 Dominguez Hills.
  • Still in the fourth, the Toros saw Dominguez single to center field to score Goodale followed by Rico sacrificing herself to the left fielder to score Dominguez and give the Toros the 16-6 victory.
 
HITTING:
 
  • Holdren and Thomas led the 'Cats with two hits while Baker, Turpen, and Vargas added one.
  • Holdren, Baker, Thomas, Brusseau, and Turpen all added an RBI each.
  • Holdren, Cable, Baker, Thomas, Brusseau, Turpen, Vargas, and Hallie Sehlin all drew one walk each.
  • The Toros were led by Goodale with three hits while Dominguez and Gandara added two each and Bishop, Rico, and Camarena added one each.
  • Goodale led DH with four RBI while Rico added three and Bishop, Dominguez, and Gandara added two and Camarena tacked on one.
  • Katsinger drew three walks while Bishop added two and Alyssa Martinez, Au, Garcia, and Camarena all drew one.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Reese Anderson pitched 0.2 innings allowing six hits, nine runs, and four walks against 12 batters.
  • Zoey Theophilus pitched the next 3.1 innings allowing four hits, seven runs with only five earned, five walks, and one strikeout against 21 batters.
  • Audrey Gallegos pitched the first two innings for CSUDH allowing one hit, no runs, and three walks against 11 batters.
  • Brooke Umali pitched the next 1.1 innings allowing four hits, five runs, two walks, and two strikeouts against 10 batters.
  • Ashlie Nakano did not record an out but faced three batters and let up one hit, one run, and two walks.
  • Ashley Ogata pitched the final 1.2 innings, allowing one hit, no runs, and one walk against seven batters.
