ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University Softball Team wrapped up their season and home-opening weekend with sweep over the visiting Warner Pacific Knights Saturday afternoon.

GAME 1:
SCORING:
- Kayla Brusseau sparked things off with her first collegiate home run in the bottom of the first inning as she also brought home Jadyn Holdren and Mia Flores to make it 3-0 CWU.
- McKayla Cable added her first home run of the season in the bottom of the second to make it 4-0 CWU.
- Holdren hit her third home run of the weekend to begin the bottom of the third and a couple of batters later saw Joelie Eder hit her first home run of the season while also knocking in Jenna Markuson to make it a 7-0 CWU lead.
- Still in the bottom of the third, Cabled doubled to left center to score Melise Brown followed by Jessica Reitz-Eaton singling to right field to score Izzy Vargas and Flores doubling down the left field line to score Cable and Reitz-Eaton and make it an 11-0 CWU lead.
- Holdren added one more in the bottom of the third when she was caught stealing which allowed Adriana Rodriguez to score and make it a 12-0 CWU game.
- Brown added her first collegiate home run in the bottom of the fourth and was followed by Rodriguez reaching on a fielding error by the pitcher which allowed enough time for Cable to score to seal the 14-0 CWU victory.
HITTING:
- Cable led the way with three hits while adding two RBI and making it home three times.
- Brusseau added two hits, three RBI, and made it home once.
- Reitz-Eaton, Flores, Holdren, Eder, Brown, and Brooke Baker all added one hit.
- Reitz-Eaton contributed an RBI, a drawn walk, and made it home once while Flores had two RBI and made it home once.
- Holdren added an RBI, two drawn walks, and made it home twice while Eder had two RBI, a drawn walk, and made it home once, with Brown adding an RBI, a drawn walk, and made it home twice.
- Hallie Sehlin drew two walks.
- The Knights saw Noe Barawis, Kili Makanani, Ryleah Torres, and Mailli Bode get one hit apiece.
PITCHING:
- Zoey Theophilus pitched all five innings for CWU allowing four hits, no runs, three walks, and struck out five of 19 batters faced.
- Makanani pitched the first 2.1 innings for WPU allowing four hits, seven runs, five walks, and earned one strikeout against 16 batters faced.
- Macey Tovar pitched the final 1.2 innings allowing seven hits, seven runs with six being earned, and two walks against 15 batters.
GAME 2:
SCORING:
- The Knights truck first in the top of the first when Giselle Beriault struck out but reached first on a wild pitch which scored Barawis and made it 1-0 WPU.
- The 'Cats responded in the bottom of the first when Sehlin reached on a fielders choice which scored Cable due to a throwing error by the third baseman.
- In the next at-bat Baker singled down the left field line to score Brusseau and Holdren and make it a 3-1 CWU lead.
- Later in the bottom of the first, Kasi Thomas singled to center field to score Sehlin and make it 4-1 CWU.
- Brusseau added her second home run of the day in the bottom of the second, drilling it to left center field to score Cable in the process and make it a 6-1 CWU lead.
- The Knights added another in the top of the fourth when Megan Fritz singled to first base but was caught trying to get to second which allowed Sofia Cherry to score and make it a 6-2 game.
- The 'Cats sealed the game in the bottom of the sixth, starting with Cable singling up the middle to score Eder and Vargas and make it 8-2 CWU.
- Brusseau in the next at-bat then tripled to center field to score Cable to make it 9-2 CWU.
- Holdren sealed the game in the next at-bat, sacrificing herself to the second baseman which scored Brusseau to give the 'Cats the win 10-2.
HITTING:
- Cable had three hits, two RBI, and made it home three times.
- Brusseau had two hits, three RBI, one drawn walk, and made it home three times.
- Baker added two hits and two RBI.
- Holdren, Thomas, Eder, and Vargas all added one hit with Holdren and Thomas adding an RBI and Holdren, Eder, and Vargas all making it home once.
- Barawis led the Knights with two of their seven hits while Ashley Fritz drew two walks.
PITCHING:
- Baker pitched the first three innings for CWU, allowing two hits, one run, four walks, but earned four strikeouts against 16 batters.
- Alex Flohr pitched the next inning allowing two hits and one run but earned a strikeout against four batters.
- Ellie Gilbert pitched the final two innings allowing three hits, no runs, one walk, and earned a strikeout against 10 batters.
- Kaylee Pokorny pitched the first five innings for Warner Pacific allowing 11 hits, 10 runs with nine being earned, one walk, and earned two strikeouts against 29 batters.
- Alex Brooks pitched the final 0.1 inning facing only one batter.
SERIES HISTORY:
- These were the first two games between CWU and WPU.
UP NEXT:
- CWU will head to Turlock, California to participate in the Stan State Invitational from Friday, February 13 through Sunday, February 15.
- CWU will face 17th-ranked Cal State East Bay on Friday at 9:00 a.m. then conclude Friday at 11:30 a.m. against the hosting Stanislaus State Warriors.
- On Saturday, the 'Cats will see Dominican (CA) at 2:00 p.m. and then take the main event at 7:00 p.m. once again against the Warriors.
- The 'Cats will wrap up their time in Turlock on Sunday against Menlo at 11:30 a.m. with all five games happening on Warrior Field.
