Wildcats Split Day Two to Take Three Games in Series Against Saints

LACEY, Wash. – The Central Washington University baseball team split the second doubleheader of the series against Saint Martin's on Sunday, March 22, to win three out of four games in the series to sit at .500 in conference play.

GAME 1:
 
SCORING:
 
  • Andre Garza opened the scoring for Central in the first inning with an RBI double to score Ethan Buckley and give CWU a 1-0 lead.
  • Saint Martin's answered right back with five unanswered runs in the bottom of the first to take a 5-1 lead.
  • The Saints' offense continued in the third as Kyle Schabot scored on a passed ball to give SMU a 6-1 lead.
  • The Wildcats stopped the run in the sixth inning with Buckley hitting a single and following a throwing error from the Saints, Buckley, Logan Blank, and Andrew Charron advanced as Charron scored. Ethan Swenson followed up with a two-RBI single to center field as Blank and Buckley scored as CWU only trailed 4-6.
  • However, the floodgates opened up for the Saints in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five more runs. SMU then scored four more runs in the seventh and eighth innings to take game one by a score of 15-4.
 
HITTING:
 
  • Ethan Swenson led the 'Cats with two RBIs and one hit.
  • Andre Garza recorded an RBI and a hit.
  • Logan Blank recorded two hits and scored a run.
  • Ethan Buckley, Conrad Henkel, and Max Bledy each recorded a run, while Buckley also scored two runs
  • The Wildcats reached base seven times by hits and walks.
  • Kyle Schabot led the Saints with four RBIs, a hit, and a run scored.
  • Noah Albanese and Bransyn Hong each recorded two RBIs for the Saints.
  • Dillon Andres, Kelton Tom, Ryden Sasaki, and Carson Dunn each recorded an RBI for SMU.
  • The Saints reached base 20 times by hits and walks.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Kyler Malnar pitched 0.1 innings, allowing five runs, zero hits, and striking out one of the six batters he faced.
  • Braden Zadow pitched five innings, allowing three runs, five hits, and striking out two of the 23 batters he faced.
  • Kaden Haffner pitched 1.2 innings, allowing six runs, six hits, and striking out two of the 14 batters he faced.
  • Nolan Soderstrom pitched 0.1 innings, allowing one run, two hits, and striking out one of the four batters he faced.
  • Gino Trippy Jr. pitched 0.2 innings, allowing zero runs, zero hits, while facing two.

  • Logan Blank opened the scoring for game two in the third inning with an RBI single through the gap to drive in Kaiden Hernandez and give Central a 1-0 lead.
  • Max Bledy followed up in the fourth inning with another RBI single, this time scoring Kellen Berg from second base as CWU took a 2-0 lead.
  • Saint Martin's got on the board in the fifth as Noah Albanese hit a sacrifice flyout to allow Brendan Haverlock to score from third base.
  • The Wildcats responded in the seventh with Lance Mittelman scoring on a throwing error and then Bledy cleaned up a bases-loaded situation with a deep single to score Hernandez and Berg to take a 5-1 lead that Central held on to after getting the Saints to go 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh to win their third of four games in the weekend.
 
HITTING:
 
  • Max Bledy led CWU with three RBIs and two hits.
  • Logan Blank hit an RBI and two hits.
  • Kellen Berg and Ethan Swenson hit a pair of hits each, while Berg scored two runs.
  • Ethan Buckley, Kaiden Hernandez, and Lance Mittelman each recorded a hit, while Hernandez scored two runs.
  • The Wildcats reached base 14 times by hits and walks.
  • Noah Albanese led SMU with one RBI, while four Saints recorded a hit, including Dillon Andres, Alohi Arecchi, Evan Nicol, and Ryden Sasaki

  • Jackson Burtis pitched 4.1 innings, allowing one run, four hits, while facing 19 batters.
  • Drake Anderson pitched 2.2 innings, allowing zero runs, zero hits, and striking out one of the eight batters he faced.
  • Luke Fulkerson pitched six innings for the Saints, allowing three runs, nine hits, and striking out seven of the 28 batters he faced.
  • Peter Hollabaugh pitched one inning for the Saints, allowing one run, two hits, and striking out two of the six batters he faced.
