Nighthawks Defeat Wildcats In Ellensburg

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University Softball Team was swept in day one against Northwest Nazarene Friday afternoon.

  • The Nighthawks struck right away in the first when Hailey Harris doubled to left center to score Jami Obringer and Ava Clark, followed by Keana Bell singling to center field to score Harris, Annie Swanson sacrificing herself to the right fielder to score Emma Bumatay, and Bell scoring on a passed ball to make it 5-0 NNU after the first inning. 
  • Paisley Noyer sacrificed herself to the first baseman to score Bell in the third followed by Obringer reaching on a fielding error by the shortstop which allowed Lola Crosby and Swanson to score to give the Nighthawks the 8-0 victory in five innings. 
 
HITTING:
 
  • Brooke Baker logged the only hit for the 'Cats.
  • Lizzy Turpen drew one walk.
  • NNU was led by Bell with two hits while six other Nighthawks earned one hit apiece.
  • Harris had two RBI while Bell, Swanson, and Noyer had one RBI each.
  • Clark, Obringer, and Harris drew two walks while Swanson drew one.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Baker pitched the first inning allowing four hits, five runs with four earned, and two walks against nine batters.
  • Alex Flohr pitched the next 1.2 innings allowing two hits, three runs with only one earned, three walks, and two strikeouts against 10 batters.
  • Reese Anderson pitched the final 2.1 innings allowing two hits, no runs, two walks, and four strikeouts against 12 batters.
  • Miah Lusk pitched all five innings allowing one hit, no runs, one walk, and five strikeouts against 17 batters.

  • The Nighthawks struck first in the fourth inning when Obringer tripled to right center field to score Clark followed by Harris singling to left field to score Obringer, followed by Noyer singling to score Audrey McKibben and make it 3-0 NNU after the fourth.
  • The Nighthawks tacked on in the fifth when Harris singled up the middle to score Clark followed by Bumatay following suit with a single up the middle to score Obringer and make it 5-0 NNU.
  • The 'Cats responded in the bottom of the fifth when Izzy Vargas singled to left field to score Joelie Eder followed by Jadyn Holdren sacrificing herself to the left fielder to score Jenna Markuson to cut it to 5-2 NNU.
  • Baker had a huge double to left center to score Vargas and Jessica Reitz-Eaton to make it 5-4 in favor of NNU after five innings. 
  • The Nighthawks sealed the deal in the top of the seventh when Crosby and Swanson earned back-to-back bases loaded walks to score Bumatay and Mekhia Wagner followed by Clark hitting a bases loaded homerun to give NNU the 11-4 victory.

  • Vargas led the 'Cats with two hits while Baker and Markuson each logged one.
  • Baker had two RBI while Vargas and Holdren added one each.
  • Holdren drew two walks while Eder, Kayla Brusseau, and Adriana Rodriguez all drew one walk.
  • Clark, Obringer, and Harris had three hits for NNU while Bumatay added two and Bell, Crosby, Noyer, and Riglee Peterson added one.
  • Clark had four RBI while Harris had two and Obringer, Bumatay, Crosby, Noyer, and Swanson all had one each.
  • Crosby drew two walks while Clark, Obringer, Bumatay, Bell, and Swanson all drew one walk each.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Zoey Theophilus pitched the first three innings allowing five hits, three runs, and one walk while striking out two of 13 batters.
  • Flohr pitched the next inning allowing two hits, no runs, and no walks while earning one strikeout against five batters.
  • Anderson pitched the next inning allowing four hits, two runs, and one walk against seven batters.
  • Ellie Gilbert pitched the final two innings allowing four hits, six runs, five walks, and one strikeout against 14 batters.
  • Riley McGee pitched the first four innings for NNU allowing one hit, three runs, two walks, and two strikeouts against 17 batters.
  • Harris pitched the next two innings allowing three hits, one run, two walks, and two strikeouts against 10 batters.
