Wildcats Split with NNU to Wrap Up Home Weekend

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University Softball Team wrapped up their home weekend with a split against the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks Saturday afternoon.

GAME 1:
 
SCORING:
 
  • Emma Bumatay put the Nighthawks on the board early in the first with a home run to center field to score Hailey Harris and Ava Clark and make it a quick 3-0 NNU lead.
  • Kayla Brusseau helped the 'Cats respond in the bottom of the first with a double down the left field line to score Brooke Baker which was followed by Kasi Thomas singling to the shortstop to score Brusseau and make it a 3-2 NNU lead after the first inning.
  • Jami Obringer added one in the second with a single to right field to score Riglee Peterson and make it a 4-2 NNU lead. 
  • The Nighthawks broke it open in the fourth after Clark singled to second base to score Audrey McKibben followed by Bumatay earning a bases loaded walk to score Clark and Keana Bell reaching on a fielding error by the center fielder to score Harris and Obringer and make it an 8-2 Nighthawk lead after four innings.
  • In the fifth Clark sacrificed herself to the second baseman which score Paisley Noyer followed by Obringer sealing the deal when she reached due to a fielding error by the third baseman to score Peterson and give NNU the 10-2 victory.
 
HITTING:
 
  • Brusseau, Thomas, and Mia Flores all logged one hit each.
  • Brusseau and Thomas had one RBI each.
  • Baker drew two walks while Jadyn Holdren drew one.
  • NNU saw six different hitters log one hit each.
  • Bumatay had four RBI while Clark had two and Obringer had one.
  • Harris drew two walks while Clark and Bumatay both drew one.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Reese Anderson pitched the first four innings allowing five hits, eight runs with only five earned, four walks, and earned three strikeouts against 24 batters.
  • Alex Flohr pitched the final inning allowing one hit, two runs with neither being earned, and one walk against seven batters.
  • Miah Lusk pitched the first 3.2 innings allowing three hits, two runs, three walks, and five strikeouts against 18 batters.
  • Lynsey Chiala pitched the final 1.1 innings not allowing any hits, runs, or walks against four batters.
 
GAME 2:
 
SCORING:
 
  • Izzy Vargas broke the 0-0 deadlock in the third inning with a home run to right field which was followed by McKayla Cable doubling to score Holdren to give the 'Cats the 2-0 lead after three innings.
  • Noyer put the Nighthawks on the board in the fourth with a single up the middle to score Bell and make it a 2-1 CWU lead.
  • Thomas tacked on another for the 'Cats in the fifth with a single to the pitcher which scored Cable and made it a 3-1 CWU lead.
  • The Wildcats added insurance in the sixth when Cable singled down the left field line which scored Holdren followed by Flores earning a bases loaded walk to score Baker and give the 'Cats the 5-1 victory.
 
HITTING:
 
  • Holdren and Cable both logged three hits while Brusseau and Vargas added two and Thomas tacked on one.
  • Cable had two RBI while Flores, Thomas, and Vargas had one RBI.
  • Baker drew two walks while Flores drew one.
  • Noyer had two hits for NNU while Obringer, Bell, Lola Crosby, and Mekhia Wagner all had one.
  • Noyer had the only RBI for NNU.
  • Clark and Lauryn Bergevin each drew one walk.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Zoey Theophilus pitched all seven innings for the 'Cats allowing six hits, one run, two walks, and struck out eight of 29 batters.
  • Harris pitched the first three innings allowing five hits, two runs, one walk, and one strikeout against 14 batters.
  • Chiala pitched the next 1.1 innings allowing four hits, one run, and no walks against eight batters.
  • Riley McGee pitched the next 0.2 innings allowing one hit, no runs, and no walks against three batters.
  • Lusk pitched the next 0.2 innings allowing two hits, two runs, two walks, and one strikeout against seven batters.
  • Victoria Frias pitched the final 0.1 innings allowing no hits, no runs, and no walks against one batter.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
 
  • The Wildcats lead the all-time series 86-46.
  • CWU is 44-19 in Ellensburg over NNU.
  • The win in game two today broke a Nighthawks seven-game win-streak.
 
UP NEXT:
 
  • The Wildcats will have one more nonconference series before GNAC play as they head north of the border for a four-game series at Simon Fraser (2-20).
