Wildcats Fall in Final Doubleheader of Season and Miss GNAC Playoffs

NAMPA, Idaho. – The Central Washington University baseball team saw its postseason chances fall short as the Wildcats dropped both games of Friday's doubleheader against Northwest Nazarene at Elmore W. Vail Field. Western Oregon won both of its games against Saint Martin's to ensure a sweep and overtake CWU for the final spot in the GNAC Championships next week, as Central's season comes to an end.

GAME 1:
 
SCORING:
 
  • Northwest Nazarene jumped in front in the first inning as Kaleb Karpstein delivered a sacrifice fly and Kyle Becker followed with an RBI single before Parker Sobiesiak was caught stealing to plate another run, giving the Nighthawks a 3-0 lead.
  • The Nighthawks added again later in the first when Caleb Boswell doubled home Adrian Arechiga to extend the margin to 4-0.
  • Central got on the board in the second inning when Conrad Henkel scored on a fielding error to make it 4-1.
  • NNU responded in the bottom of the second as Becker doubled in two runs and Sobiesiak followed with an RBI single to push the lead to 7-1.
  • The Nighthawks broke the game open in the third inning with a two‑run homer from Carter Walsh to stretch the advantage to 9-1.
  • Northwest Nazarene poured on six runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a three‑run home run from Jake Mestas, to blow the game open at 15-1.
  • The Nighthawks continued to add on with runs in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, while CWU plated a run in the seventh on an RBI groundout by Kaiden Hernandez, before Northwest Nazarene closed out the 25-2 victory.
 
HITTING:
 
  • Andre Garza led the 'Cats with three hits, while Kaiden Hernandez recorded the only RBI of the game.
  • Max Bledy and Conrad Henkel each recorded two hits, while Henkel also scored a run.
  • Three other Wildcats including Logan Blank, Ethan Buckley, and Jonathan Rominger each recorded a hit, while Rominger scored the only other run.
  • The Wildcats reached base 11 times by hits and walks.
  • Four Nighthawks recorded three RBIs each including Kyle Becker, Caleb Boswell, Jake Mestas, and Cooper Nixon. In total, 11 NNU players recorded at least one RBI, while 13 recorded a hit each.

  • Camdyn Martindale pitched 3.1 innings allowing 13 runs, 15 hits, and striking out three of the 25 batters he faced.

  • Central struck first in the opening inning when Logan Blank hit an RBI double, Andre Garza drove in another and Kellen Berg added an RBI double to take a 3-0 lead.
  • Northwest Nazarene answered in the bottom of the first as Kyle Becker doubled in a run and Adrian Arechiga delivered a two‑run single to even the game at 3-3.
  • The Wildcats regained the lead in the second inning when Blank singled in a run to put CWU ahead 4-3.
  • NNU responded immediately as Tate Lewis homered in the bottom of the second to swing the lead back in favor of the Nighthawks at 4-4.
  • The Nighthawks seized control in the third inning with a six‑run outburst fueled by homers from Liam Herrera, Tate Lewis and Carter Walsh to take a commanding 10-4 advantage.
  • Northwest Nazarene added eight more runs in the fourth inning, including three‑run homers from Parker Sobiesiak and Lewis, to break the game open at 18-4.
  • The Nighthawks tacked on three runs in the sixth inning while Central scored once in the seventh on an RBI single from Ethan Buckley, before Northwest Nazarene finished off the series finale with a 21-5 win.

  • Logan Blank led the Wildcats with two RBIs, two hits, and a run scored.
  • Kellen Berg, Ethan Buckley, and Andre Garza each recorded an RBI, while Buckley recorded two hits and Berg recorded one hit.
