ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The No. 21 Central Washington University volleyball team opens its toughest test of the young season this week at the Bronco Classic in Pomona, California, carrying momentum from a perfect 3-0 opening weekend at the CWU Volleyball Invitational.

LAST WEEKEND:

CWU began the season with a dominant 3-0 sweep of San Francisco State on Aug. 27, hitting .313 as a team and holding the Gators to a .165 attacking percentage. Corinne Westby paced the offense with 13 kills, while Brooklyn Parker collected 21 digs and the Wildcats finished with advantages in kills (44-27), assists (42-27), digs (62-47), and aces (6-5).
 
The Wildcats followed with another sweep on Aug. 28, defeating No. 4 Point Loma 25-21, 25-23, 25-22 in a tightly contested match. Ellie Marble and Westby each recorded nine kills, while Hayli Tri and Kailey Willsey led a defensive effort that produced eight team blocks. Despite being outkilled 41-36, CWU excelled in key moments throughout all three sets to secure its second straight sweep.
 
Central wrapped up the weekend with a 3-1 victory over Chaminade on Aug. 29. After winning the opening two sets, the Wildcats dropped the third before responding with a dominant 25-7 fourth-set performance. Marble and Westby each posted 14 kills, Tri anchored the net with eight blocks, and CWU's defense helped force Chaminade into a .084 hitting percentage. The Wildcats finished the tournament with perfect three victories, while Marble, Parker, and Westby were named to the All-Tournament team and Westby received MVP honors.

 
SCOUTING THE BRONCOS:
 
Cal Poly Pomona opened the season with a 3-1 record after winning three straight matches at the Coyote Classic. The Broncos swept Vanguard, Seattle Pacific, and Westmont, dropping just one set across the tournament's first three contests. Their unbeaten start ended Saturday with a four-set loss to Concordia Irvine, but the Broncos still enter the week having won three of their first four matches while displaying a balanced offense and strong serving throughout opening weekend.
 
Sarah Ybarra led the Broncos offensively, recording 10 kills against Vanguard, 15 against Seattle Pacific, 15 against Westmont, and 12 against Concordia Irvine. Charlotte Koerber added double-digit production throughout the weekend, including a team-high 13 kills in the season opener, while setter Alexia Zammit powered the offense with 28 assists against Vanguard and at least 32 assists in each of the final three matches. Defensively, Koerber and libero Renee Nachtigall were consistent contributors in the back row, helping the Broncos average more than 40 digs per match during their 3-1 opening weekend.
 
 
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES:

Cal State LA enters the week with a 1-3 record after a challenging opening weekend at the Coyote Classic. The Golden Eagles opened the tournament with a five-set loss to Saint Martin's before falling in straight sets to Concordia Irvine. Cal State LA rebounded with a sweep of Vanguard on Saturday afternoon to earn its first victory of the season but closed the weekend with another five-set loss to Westmont. Two of the Golden Eagles' three losses came in five sets, highlighting a team that remained competitive throughout the opening weekend.
 
Samarah DaCoud led Cal State LA offensively, posting 19 kills against Saint Martin's, 11 against Vanguard, and a match-high 25 kills against Westmont. Amber Walker added 17 kills in the opener and finished with double-digit kills in two matches, while setter Ruby Ennis directed the offense with 32 assists against Saint Martin's and 26 against Westmont. Defensively, libero Juliana Speiski recorded 20 digs against Saint Martin's and 21 against Westmont, while Havannah Vogel, Isabella Barrios, and Walker helped anchor the Golden Eagles at the net throughout the weekend.

 
SCOUTING THE COYOTES:

Cal State San Bernardino enters the week with a perfect 4-0 record after an impressive opening weekend at the Coyote Classic. The Coyotes swept Westmont and Vanguard in straight sets before earning a four-set victory over Seattle Pacific and closing the tournament with another sweep of Saint Martin's. CSUSB won 12 of 13 sets during the weekend, hitting above .300 in all four matches while establishing itself as one of the top teams in the West Region.
 
Kacie Pedersen paced the CSUSB attack throughout the weekend, recording 14 kills against Westmont, 20 against Seattle Pacific, and averaging more than 12 kills per match across the tournament. Sarai Ross and Kisa Sagiao provided consistent support, combining for 28 kills in the win over Seattle Pacific, while setters Jaiden Van Horn and McKenna Edwards directed a balanced offense that surpassed 40 kills in every match. Defensively, Allison Legates anchored the net with nine blocks in the first two matches, and libero Saniyah Sobers contributed double-digit digs in three contests as the Coyotes held opponents below a .220 hitting percentage on the weekend.
