Coach Champlin will be entering his fourth season with the Wildcats in 2023.
Before joining the Wildcats in 2020, Champlin spent one season coaching with GNAC rival Saint Martin's University. Champlin was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 37th round (1,103rd overall) in the 2008 Major League Baseball draft. Champlin was then drafted in the 33rd round by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2011. He went on to play four seasons with the Blue Jays and was a part of the 2011 league championship team. Champlin went on to play three seasons in the independent leagues where he was a two-time all-star and won the championship series in 2015. He went on to finish his playing career in the Australian Baseball League where he won the league championship series and earned a selection to the world all-star team.
2011 (Junior): Quickly established himself as a key cog in ASU's rotation, starting a team-high 17 games...was 9-4 with a 2.85 ERA...threw a team-leading three complete games, including shutouts at Cal and at Washington...struck out 95 batters, who hit only .246 against him...earned Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 honors and was named the team's Pitcher of the Year...threw 117.0 innings...
Junior College: A 2010 graduate of Western Nevada College in Carson City, Nevada...was teammates with current Devil Josh Moody at Western Nevada...compiled an 18-3 record with eight saves in his two seasons...was twice named Pitcher of the Year...earned First Team All-SWAC in both 2009 and 2010...also twice earned All-Region honors...helped lead Western Nevada to a third-place finish at the Junior College World Series...threw a no-hitter in his first ever start.
High School: A 2008 graduate of Olympia High School in Olympia, Washington...earned three varsity letters in baseball and football and one in basketball...was a team captain for both baseball and football during his senior season...was a First Team All-League pick as well First Team All-State selection in baseball...earned Second Team All-League honors as a quarterback and was an Honorable Mention selection in basketball...
