Capitani joins the Wildcats in Spring 2017 after spending two seasons coaching cornerbacks at NCAA Division II member Minnesota State. In his two years, the Mavericks went 21-4, which included a 13-1 record this past season as Minnesota State earned the #2 seed in the NCAA Super Region Three, advancing to the regional championships.
In 2017, the Maverick defense ranked ninth nationally in terms of total defense and held their opposition to a 51.7 completion percentage on the season.
Capitani played collegiately at Wartburg College in Iowa where he earned Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year on his way to an All-American selection. Capitani and the Knights also won back-to-back IIAC titles.
After graduating Wartburg with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, Capitani spent
one season as the cornerbacks coach at UW-La Crosse.
Capitani will serve as an assistant coach on the defensive side of the ball and will work individually with safeties.
