High School: Graduated from Trabuco Hills High School in Mission Viejo, Calif., in 2010. Lettered three times in football for the Mustangs and head coach Jason Negro. Earned all-CIF Southwest Section and all-Sea View League honors at safety as a senior. Top prep performance included eight tackles and an interception against Pacifica High School.
 
College: Spent three seasons at Saddleback College. Played the 2011 and 2012 seasons after redshirting in 2010. Totaled 58 tackles, including three sacks, as a sophomore for the Gauchos. Added two interceptions, three forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery during the 2012 campaign. Joined the Wildcats in August 2013. Started at middle linebacker in 10 of the 11 games he played in 2013. Was third in tackles (64), just two behind the team leader. That was also the 12th best tackle total in the GNAC. Recorded 3.5 tackles for loss and combined on a sack. Intercepted a pass, returning it 41 yards. Tied for third on the team in quarterback hits (2), had two pass break ups and three others defended. Also returned a fumble 23 yards. Selected to the all-GNAC first team. Named to the Beyond Sports Network 2014 GNAC Preseason All Conference team.
