Andrews Named to All-GNAC Women's Soccer First Team

Wildcats Have Six All-Conference Selections Overall in 2009

SPOKANE (Nov. 10) -- Senior Jessica Andrews (Spanaway/Bethel HS) has been named to the 2009 Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer all-conference first team, highlighting a list of six Central Washington student-athletes to earn all-conference honors, announced Tuesday by the conference office.

Andrews, a defender, was a second-team all-GNAC performer last year but earned first-team all-league accolades this season after helping to shut down some of the top scorers in the GNAC. She played in and started all but three of the Wildcats' 19 matches this year.

Joining Andrews as all-conference honorees were second-team picks Kaycie Hutchins (Port Orchard/Bellarmine Prep) and Serena Tomaso (Enumclaw), and honorable mention selections Amber Easterbrook (Kent/Kentwood HS), Ellie Eckroth (Auburn/Auburn Mountainview HS), and Hillary Franks (Yakima/West Valley HS).

Hutchins finished the season as Central's top point-scorer with 18 points with five goals and a conference-leading eight assists. The selection for Hutchins, a midfielder, as the third of her career including the second second-team accolade in as many seasons. Tomaso was the Wildcats' number two scorer, tying for the team lead in goals with five while adding four assists during her sophomore season.

Two of the Wildcats' three honorable mention choices earned all-conference recognition for the second time in their careers. Easterbrook, Central's record-setting goalkeeper, and Franks, a defender, were both second-team all-league performers in 2008. Easterbrook played every minute in goal for Central this season, logging five shutouts and a 1.37 goals-against average. Franks started 17 of the 18 matches in which she played in 2009. Eckroth picked up all-conference honors for the first time in her career as a midfielder.

Jocelyn Charette of Seattle Pacific was named the GNAC Player of the Year, while SPU's Chuck Sekyra and Rob Walker of Saint Martin's were named Co-Coaches of the Year.

Central Washington finished 8-10-1 overall and 5-6-1 in GNAC play. The Wildcats lost just three seniors -- Andrews, Easterbrook, and forward Monique Cornier (Puyallup/Emerald Ridge HS) -- to graduation.
