SPOKANE (Nov. 5) -- A program-record nine women's soccer student-athletes from Central Washington University have been named to the 2009 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Soccer Team.
The Wildcats' nine selections are tied for most in the seven-team conference with Seattle Pacific. In addition, this year's nine honorees are three more than Central's previous high for academic all-conference selections. Six Wildcats received the honor in 2003.
Of Central's academic all-conference picks in 2009, six are exercise science majors. Junior
Gwenna Carie (Leavenworth/Cascade HS) has the highest grade-point average of the honorees at 3.88, while fellow juniors
Annie Weisbeck (Spokane Valley/Central Valley HS) and
Ellie Eckroth (Auburn/Auburn Mountainview HS) also have GPAs above 3.50. Weisbeck (3.71), Eckroth (3.60), and fellow junior
Kaycie Hutchins (Port Orchard/Bellarmine Prep) are all exercise science majors and repeat selections to the team. Hutchins has a 3.41 GPA.
Earning academic all-conference recognition for the third time in her career is senior goalkeeper
Amber Easterbrook (Kent/Kentwood HS), who has a 3.25 grade-point average as an exercise science major.
Named to the academic all-conference team for the first time in their careers are seniors
Michelle Mohn (Kent/Thomas Jefferson HS),
Monique Cornier (Puyallup/Emerald Ridge HS), and
Jessica Andrews (Spanaway/Bethel HS). Mohn is a secondary education major with a 3.38 GPA, Cornier is studying elementary education with a 3.26 GPA, and Andrews is an exercise science major with a 3.22 GPA. Sophomore
Hillary Franks (Yakima/West Valley HS), who has yet to declare a major, was also named to the team with her 3.35 cumulative GPA.
Seattle Pacific joined CWU with nine academic all-conference selections among the 52 women's picks.
