TACOMA (Oct. 15) -- With another reduced contingent running in its final tune-up before the post-season, the Central Washington University cross country teams sent just seven runners to the PLU Cross Country Invitational on Saturday in Tacoma.
Leading the Wildcat men was senior Manuel Santos (Yakima/A.C. Davis HS) with a fourth-place finish in the eight-kilometer race, posting a time of 26:28, while freshmen Ryan Loutsis (Bothell) and Peter Troianello (Yakima/Eisenhower HS) were 18th and 34th, respectively. With just three male racers, CWU finished with an incomplete team score.
"Manuel had a pretty good day, and a nice run," CWU head coach
Kevin Adkisson said. "He needed to come out and get the dust off to prepare him for the conference meet next week."
On the women's side, Sarah Flatebo (Graham/Graham-Kapowsin HS) and Adriana Zazula (Puyallup/Rogers HS) finished consecutively in 25th and 26th place, respectively, on the six-kilometer course, just five seconds apart. Flatebo had a time of 27:19, while Zazula crossed in a time of 27:24. Also running for the CWU women on Saturday were freshmen Brianna Bofinger (Poulsbo/Central Kitsap HS) and Chelsie Rommel (Everett), who finished 34th and 37th, respectively.
Next Saturday, Central Washington will host the 11th annual Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships in Yakima.
