Six Score in Double Figures as Wildcats Rebound with 17-Point Win

McLaughlin Leads the Way with 27 as CWU Defeats Academy of Art University

Box Score

SEATTLE (Nov. 10) -- Junior Mark McLaughlin (Bothell/Inglemoor HS) poured in 27 points to lead six Central Washington University men's basketball players in double figures, and the Wildcats rolled to a 104-87 victory against Academy of Art University on the final day of the Sodexo Tip-Off Classic.

CWU (1-1) bounced back from Friday's 102-99 overtime loss to Azusa Pacific in which the Wildcats saw a double-digit halftime lead melt away.

McLaughlin finished with 58 points in the two-day tournament at Seattle Pacific.

Three other CWU starters joined McLaughlin in double figures. Junior Dominique Williams (University Place/Curtis HS) had 17, junior Nate Walker (Tacoma/Henry Foss HS) 12, and junior Chris Holmes (Seattle/Franklin HS) 10.

Freshman guard Joey Roppo (Monroe) came off the bench and hit back-to-back three-pointers, putting the Wildcats up by 20 with 9:44 left in the first half.

The Urban Knights (0-2) fought back, shooting 62 percent from the field during the second half. They twice pulled within 12 but that was as close as they came.

Czar Robotham led Academy of Art with 22 points in a reserve role, and Akil Johnson tallied 20.

CWU remains on the road next week, traveling to Laie, Hawai'i, for tournament games against Brigham Young University-Hawai'i on Friday (Nov. 16) and Hawai'i Pacific University on Saturday (Nov. 17). The Wildcats' home opener at Nicholson Pavilion is Monday, Nov. 26 versus Walla Walla University.
