Box Score ELLENSBURG (Jan. 9) -- The Central Washington University women's basketball team had a late second-half lead against archrival Western Washington University, but couldn't fend off the Vikings who upended the Wildcats 71-64 Thursday night in Bellingham, WA.
With the loss CWU falls to 5-8 and 0-5 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, while the Vikings improved to 6-6, 2-2 in GNAC.
The Wildcats trailed the Vikings 32-31 at halftime, after trailing by as many as nine points in the opening period. The Wildcats battled back due in large part to the scoring efforts of Senior Jessica Vandyke (Chester, MT./Chester-Joplin-Interverness) who scored 10 of her team-high 17 points before intermission.
Central Washington came out hot in the second-half and built a four-point advantage with just over 11 minutes left in the contest. Western Washington tied the game at with 3:00 left and went on a 6-0 run to take a 66-60 lead with just 40 seconds left.
VanDyke finished with 17 points 10 rebounds and her third double-double of the season.
COURTNEY JOHNSON (Kentwood HS) was the only other Wildcat to score in double figures with 14 points and five rebounds.
Sydney Donaldson had a game-high 21 points on 8 of 12 shooting, and teammate Katie Colard finished with 16 points and made all 11 of her free throw shots.
Central Washington women's basketball will return to action this Saturday (Jan. 11) when they travel to Simon Fraser University for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.
