BURNABY, B.C. Canada (Oct. 4) – The Central Washington University volleyball team started slow offensively which led to a 3-0 loss to Simon Fraser University Saturday night in Canada.
The loss was the third straight for CWU who now sits at 10-5 on the season and 3-4 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Simon Fraser improves to 10-5, 4-3 in the GNAC.
The Central Washington offense struggled in the opening set hitting just .065 collecting just nine kills on 31 attacks with seven attack errors. In contrast, the Clan hit .406 committing just three errors a totaling 16 kills as they took the set 25-16.
The offensive woes continued for the Wildcats in the second set, losing 25-18. Central Washington hit .083 and had eight attack errors in the frame. Going into intermission the Wildcats were hitting just .076 while the Clan hit .306 with seven less attack errors.
Central Washington Found its offensive groove in the third set and led for the majority of the frame, but two late attack errors by the Wildcats proved costly as the Clan were able to battle back to tie the set and eventually win the match with a 30-28 set win. The Wildcats had their best hitting match with 20 kills and a .0268 hitting percentage. However, the Clan hit slightly better at .306 with 25 kills in the set.
Junior
Linden Firethorne led the Wildcats with 12 kills followed by
Kiah Jones with 11.
Catie Fry led all players with 36 assists and
Kaely Kight finished with a team-high 21 digs.
The Wildcats will return home for four consecutive home matches, starting with Montana State Billings on Oct. 9 at 7 P.M. The Wildcats are 5-1 at home so far this season.
