ELLENSBURG, Wash (Nov 21) – The Central Washington University women's basketball team will play its first home game of the 2014-15 season this Saturday, Nov. 22 in Nicholson Pavilion at 7 p.m., versus Evergreen State.

The Wildcats' current record rests at 1-1 after returning from the NNU Tip-off classic last week.

"We competed well over opening weekend against two very good teams in the Region," First year head coach Jeff Harada said. "We learned a lot about ourselves, what we need to get better at and how to win a close game, so overall it was a positive experience."

The team is led by senior forward Courtney Johnson who is averaging 20.5 ppg while shooting a staggering 50 percent from the field. Johnson also leads the team in rebounds per game (7) and assists per game (3.5) in the first two contests.

"Courtney had an outstanding weekend and her hard work over the summer and preseason showed in her focus and conditioning," Harada said. "More than the points, I was very pleased with her shot selection and overall play as the numbers showed."

Freshman point guard Jasmin Edwards is off to a great start highlighted by her 17-point effort in an opening night loss to Cal Baptist University. She ranks second on the team with 2.5 apg and has found her way to the free throw line taking 14 attempts to lead the team.

"Jasmin had a great start to her Wildcat career and I was very happy for her," Harada added "She struggled at times in the preseason games but was able to find a way to overcome that adversity and run the team offensively while holding her own on defense.  She's a special player not just because of her talent, but because of her work ethic, poise and mental toughness."

Jasmine Parker is once again solidifying the post for the Wildcats. Parker is averaging 9.5 ppg and is grabbing seven rebound per game. She also leads the Wildcats with four blocks.

"We are definitely excited about our home opener and I know the team is looking forward to playing in front of our fans for the first time," Harada said. "They've been working really hard and are eager to show how far they've come in the last two months."
