Seattle, Wash (Nov. 6) – The Central Washington University women's volleyball team came back from a 2-1 deficit to take the match 3-2 against Seattle Pacific University, Thursday night at Broughan Pavilion.
With their fourth straight win the Wildcats improve to 18-6 overall and 11-5 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The Falcons fall to 11-11 overall and 5-9 in the conference.
The Wildcats opened a quick 4-1 lead in the first set behind three consecutive
Kaitlin Quirk kills. But a six-point run early in the set and a 6-2 run late, closed the set in favor of the Falcons.
Central Washington evened the match with a second set win aided by an early seven-point run to give the Wildcats an 8-3 lead. The Wildcats continued to build the margin behind strong hitting from
Jordan Deming and flawless passing from
Catie Fry. Fry totaled ten assists in the second set and ended the night with 42. The Wildcats held the
Falcons to a -.188 hitting percentage in the set.
After losing the third set 25-16, the Wildcats stormed back to win the fourth set 26-24.
Erin Little started the fourth set for Central Washington, in what would be her eighth set of the season, and matched season total with four kills to lead the Wildcats to victory. The team outhit the Falcons .250 to .237 in the win.
The fifth set saw the score tied 10 different times as the Wildcats pushed for the win.
Linden Firethorne added three kills in the set and finished with 15 on the night on 44 attempts. Little, again came through for the team with three kills and ended with seven kills on 14 attempts hitting a strong .429. She also added four total blocks, as the team totaled
The Wildcats will conclude their final road trip of the season when they travel to Montana State Billings, Nov. 8. With one more win, Head Coach
Mario Andaya will have reached 300 wins at the helm of CWU volleyball.
